Having made a thread about which laptop to buy, and I'm hoping to buy in a few weeks, my question now is about an external mouse. I use a logitech MX510 for my desktop which I love. It's light, and has 2 side buttons which I have mapped for weapons, a top button mapped to Esc/menu, the wheel press for another weapon, and wheel forward and back for more weapons. I need to have all this for a second laptop mouse. Should I just buy another MX510 or later logitech mouse, OR, what do you think of cordless? Am I right in thinking that cordless will be heavier and not feel as good because of batteries, and does cordless simply work as well as corded or does it miss information? If cordless is recommended, does Logitech do a good one with similar button configs? Thanks.

Dont get Cordless >< !!! The Battery Replacement Horror xD

I've used Logitech cordless mice, and I've loved their performance, and the freedom they offer from wires.
You could look at the G7. It comes with a charger, so no issues about battery life. -
Wow, those were 2 fast replies! This forum is good
Heh, one against cordless and one for.
jetstar, how does the weight feel on your cordless mice? I'm used to flicking the mouse around fast in games such as quake3 and quake4 online, and my mx510 ( and intellimouse explorer v3.0 before that ) is light and fast in that respect. Did you find the extra weight slowed down your reactions at all? -
Checked out the G7, but it's only got one side button, so that's no go.
Love the VX Revolution though, it's got 2 side buttons and looks closest to mine in shape. -
i wireless mouse rulezzz!!! I have a lazermouse and it works perfect.

I personally hate those little dongle things hanging off my laptop... if I'm gonna go wireless, it has to be bluetooth. And there's nothing bluetooth that is a great gaming mouse that I've seen, so I'd have to vote wired. I love my G5. on-the-fly resolution switching FTW

Wireless technology is very reliable these days so if you do decide to go with a wireless mouse you shouldn't have any issues playing games. For wireless consider the Logitech G7 and for corded, the Razer DeathAdder or the Copperhead are great choices. I use the Copperhead and I love it.

Thanks for the tips. Well, the G7 is sadly no good for me since I do need the 2 side buttons. If I go cordless, I'll need to check out the VX before buying it and see how it feels in my hand, if I can find it in a shop to try. If I go corded, I'll definitely check out the Razer DeathAdder and Copperhead. But, I reckon I'll most likely just go with an MX 518. Because the MX510 is perfect for me, very accurate, and the 518 is identical but double the dpi at 1600.
Or I might even take LFC's evil, evil advice to spend money and get both -
The MX518 is a solid, solid choice. Personally I couldn't tell the difference between an MX518 and a G5 when using them.

I vote cordless, however you should know that I use a cordless Logitech trackman track ball mouse. There's a giant dongle hanging off the back of my laptop and my thumb knuckle will start smoking if I deathmatch longer than 15 minutes.
It's worth it to me though because I like to be able to mouse without needing any space to do it in. -
Wireless mouse. Ever since I started using a wireless mouse last year I never went back to a cordless one. Well, I still use my A4 Tech X7 gaming mouse when playing shooting games on my desktop.

I never understood the point of a wireless mouse - you're sitting right there next to your computer, it's not like you're sitting far away or people could trip over the cord (which is why I like wireless console controllers
).
I have a G5 and it's wonderful. Adjustable weight cartridge to make it as light or heavy as you want, on-the-fly DPI switching (up to 2000 DPI), plus there's a new, blue version of the G5 with back AND forward buttons; I'm sure if you shop around you could find a cheaper price.
