I'm getting really annoyed trying to watch Blu-ray movies and Netflix movies on my computer. Games are liquid smooth, the response time of this display is impeccable in anything except for video and I'm wondering if it's a driver issue or a display issue? I've never seen so much annoying judder, even on an old school TV that didn't have artificial filters that smooth out the playback. It's not across the board in fact YouTube is smooth on both HTML5 and Flash and the same goes for most video but Hulu and Netflix are big offenders and the worst offenders are DVD and Blu-ray, even using the Cyberlink software that came with the machine. My M17xR1 never had this issue but that machine used a GPU for which I believe driver support has been out for awhile (260M GTX). My old Toshiba Satellite X205 didn't have this issue and neither did my budget Inspiron 17R with its Intel HD 3000 so it has to be something with this machine as the same content plays perfectly on my TV and I don't use Sony's tweaks because things speed up that shouldn't and it looks unnatural on any setting.
Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? I've changed refresh rates and it makes zero impact if it's 60 or 120hz. It's driving me insane because right now I don't have a way to run my other TV into my room without having no place to put my laptop.
I'm running 353.06 but it does it on my trusty 347.88 as well. This is maddening, its ruining my Jason Bourne experience!![]()
I put this in gaming because it is where we all drop our problems that may have to do with drivers.

Windows 8 app doesn't do it either. Just rewatched the same chase that drove me nuts and other than being able to tell it's in 24hz (which unfortunately a custom resolution can't fix, my monitor goes black at anything under 50, already tried that) it's not skipping around. I guess I'll have to use the stupid 8 apps for now but that doesn't help with DVD and Blu-ray movies. Why would I pay extra for a BD-RE if I didn't ever plan to use it for movies? =/

I dont know if it will help, but I had a similar issue while playing H264 files on my laptop. I was using MPC-HC with K-lite codec pack. It turned out that the FFDshow included in K-Lite codec pack was causing this. I downloaded the FFDshow and installed separately and it solved the issue.

I also noticed that ripping a Blu-ray that had this issue (Underworld) to HQ H264 loses the judder despite the fact that I kept the source and output as close to original as possible but even with NVENC that is a really long process just to watch a movie. I'm pretty flummoxed right now. The fact that VLC doesn't exhibit the behavior while CyberLink does gives me pause that it could be a codec problem but CyberLink and VLC are the only two media players I have installed and use and VLC has its own separate codecs built in, they don't go systemwide.
I just now found out that VLC can indeed play encrypted Blu-ray with some modification, maybe I should try that and see if its a CyberLink issue but that still wouldn't explain Hulu or Netflix. I turned off hardware acceleration in Chrome and its even worse so I'm at a loss. -
i could just be the laptop doesn't have enough processing power to do 1080p video...maybe. i know my netbook can't do 1080p but can do 720p easy.

Hmm I had similar issues and it was my installed media codecs. I wiped out everything and redownloaded media player classic instead and so far so good with no judder.

Anyway, VLC doesn't do it. Since 359 drivers, the Netlfix app doesn't do the freezing or the judder but Netflix.com does it both in Chrome and Firefox. I never thought I'd see the day I'd actually sink so low as to cling to Metro.
The fact 353.62 doesn't have the issue in Linux in Chrome... Tells me its a driver issue. But whatever, if I have to use the app then that's what I have to do, not much choice there!
Oh and for the record, this is a mod going through nicotine withdrawal C/T so please, do yourself and everyone else, especially him, a favor, and just shut up. @thegh0sts It won't end well for either of us if I have to get anyone else involved so just drop it.Last edited: Dec 5, 2015hmscott, TomJGX and PrimeTimeAction like this. -
Wow I really let my emotions get the best of me. Sorry @thegh0sts, today is day three when I have smoking roommates but I didn't need to be so aggressive with you, my assumption is that you didn't see my system specifications and I just took it the wrong way.
I have figured out the issue. It's Chrome in Windows. Since I won't switch browsers, I'll just have to use the Metro app but I've noticed that it has the judder as well. The problem with using Linux is there is no way for me to actually get the sound output right (when you play with the X-Fi MB3 app on my Clevo, the sound actually becomes the best of any laptop I've ever had and my Toshiba had Harmon Kardon audio) plus Clevo broke everything with their last sBIOS to where I have to hold down F2 and choose a boot option if I want to get out of Windows because their EFI doesn't show a single thing on my screen until the Sager logo is booting windows.
Anyway, I'm not someone to just delete and act like nothing ever happened, I was a jerk and I'm sorry.TomJGX, hmscott, PrimeTimeAction and 1 other person like this. -

As someone who is a mod on several large websites/twitch chats, I'm not a fan of how you've acted in this thread. Sorry, Ethrem.
With that said, it's really sad how much NVIDIA have been jerking their loyal customers around with their garbage drivers just because they have such a large market share... I really hope AMD can do something about NVIDIA's stronghold on the GPU market... -
As for AMD........ From what I know, they're focusing on consoles and desktops. Oh and embedded chips.
They have no desire to take the high end crown from nVidia on the notebook front as far as I'm aware.TomJGX likes this. -
If it's chrome... is it pepperflash that's doing it? Or some form of hardware acceleration? You might wish to play around with chrome's flags and options to determine what the issue is.

Pepper is the only way to play Netflix or Hulu in Linux.
Windows vs Linux, there is a mild but noticeable judder drop in Linux. I'm very sensitive though. They've actually proven that my eyes respond faster than the test... I got 100/100 on reaction time even after they bumped the test speed up. 112 FPS is the limit where I don't notice anymore... Having a monitor built for 120 FPS and being fed 60 that was converted from 24............. Goes without saying. Linux (once I got past the open source nVidia nouveau - I'm sure you can imagine how "fun" that was) actually had a perceptible difference. -

Hulu has alwasy been smooth for me but I had a similar issue with Netflix, where it was stuttering and sometimes switching to lower res stream, despite 70Mbps connection. Was actually running smoother on my Android tablet.
I filed complaints with Netflix on every title I tried to watch. Never received any response, but several weeks later, everything runs much smoother for me, and I consistently get the higher bitrate streams. Can't think of anything that has changed with my hardware or drivers in the interim.hmscott likes this.
Movies with extreme judder... Driver or display?
