What games will take advantage of dual core cpu's right now? I know Quake 4 will give you a 20-50% boost in FPS. Half Life 2 (All Source games) is also expacted to have a patch which will give you a 20% boost in FPS, and added details.

Any other games out there? Even if you get an FPS boost I don't mind (I love having a solid 60).

I also heard Battlefield 2 will give you an FPS boost with dual core. I don't know for sure though. Anyone can confirm?

I believe you mean Quake 4. Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2 are the only games I know of currently that have full dual-core optimization patches. According to the ReadMe file, the patch can provide up to an 87% performance boost when used on a system with a dual-core processor; for HyperThreaded CPUs (Pentium 4), there is up to a 25% increase.

Oblivion shows about a 20% increase in performance with a dual-core processor.

    Yeah, I mean Quake 4... :D

So I guess I will pick up:

-Half Life 2 (Patch coming very soon)
    -Quake 4 (Online any good?)
-Battlefield 2 (Please tell me a lot of people still play this online?)
    -F.E.A.R.
-Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (Not sure, maybe)

I also hope Battlefield 2142 and ArmA: Armed Assault come out with patches soon to take advantage of dual core. I can only hope.

Can I do this with Media Edition?

Has anyone done any benchmarks with these games and Vista?

I'm wondering if they would run better considering Vista optimizes dual core better..

Yes, if you have Windows XP w/ SP2 (32-bit) you should make sure that it is optimized for dual cores.

Windows XP Home, Media Center, and Pro are essentially the same OS with different options.

*Shrug* that makes no big difference. There's not much to optimize. You have two cores, you have a queue of threads to execute. You pick the first two from the queue by default, end of story. It might be possible to squeeze a few percent extra performance out of it by selectively reordering the threads to better work with each CPU's cache, but the effect would be minimal (and interfere with the "fair" scheduler that processes expect).

    what about F.E.A.R. combat?

Yes, F.E.A.R, are there dual core optimizations fixes. That would be awesome. Also, is this Half Life 2 fix out yet, would it update automatically? Thanks.

Not sure, but it's due out very soon.

Anyone playing Battlefield 2 on a Go7400 with dual core 2.0GHz? FPS?
