Hello, I just got Left 4 Dead and I have had Call of Duty 4 MW for a while. I want to play multiplayer, but I don't know anyone else that has the games, and I haven't played Multiplayer at all.

    Basically, my questions are:
How would I find a session targeted to not-as-good players?
Where would I find a session where everyone understands that I am new to multiplayer?
The rest of my questions can be basically summed up as : What would be the best way for a total multiplayer newbie to start?

I don't want to be an inconvenience to skilled players, but I want to discover the joy of multiplayer gaming.

I figure this would be a good thread for people with basically the same questions I have for any shooter that has mulitplayer. Please feel free to post any links to great guides and feel free to give any advice you have.

If there is already a thread like this, I am sorry and feel free to drop it or post a link to the actual thread (I did a search but it came up with nothing).

    Thanks!

Just jump in and start playing, except for L4D, stay on the lower difficulties. There are always going to be other players in your situation.

Yup...thats how I started. Don't feel discouraged if you do end up in a game with veteran players and feel like falling behind. Just keep at it and have fun. It turns out you learn to be good from better players. =)

Even if you do find a server that is a "noob" server (no offense we were all noobs once :D) as I was saying if you find a "noob" server stay usually that is just a target for experienced players who like to take advantage of people, thats what I have found in my experience anyway.

^^ guilty :D . But i have also gotten games to come to a halt in order show them how to reach some areas on each map that they other wise would have been clueless about.

I would suggest looking at the server's name, and try to find words like "Social", "Fun", "etc. Welcoming words. Avoid clan servers, unless it's a social clan server.

You'll know which server(s) to call home if the people playing there are open to showing you the ropes, and giving you advice. Be nice and polite when asking. You'll also know to frequent a server if the people who are playing aren't extremely difficult to kill, but still present a challenge to you and make you want to get better without stressing you out. Don't forget that the most important thing is that the server is fun.

im basically a multiplayer noob as well, but i didn't really care which server i joined, the way i went about learning was setting targets for myself.

    * first off, try and get a kill
    * try and get a few kills
    * try and close the gap between my death/kill ratio
    * unlock some of the better weapons
    * complete some of the achievements
    etc etc

so slowly i got better and wasn't competing against others, it was fun and because i wasn't trying to be the best guy out there i improved faster as there was no pressure........then before you know it i was able to hold my own against the others......
anyway just go out and enjoy it........
