I am about to purchase the Asus V2s (for portability and mid-range performance), which comes with the 8600 gs. I haven't played games seriously in years, but the last games I remember liking were:
Knights of the Old Republic
Half-Life
Rome: Total War
Starcraft (back in the day)
Any suggestions for a few must-have games from the past few years that I should get?
-
Deus Ex - 1999
Homeworld - 1999
Homeworld 2 - 2003
Call of Duty - 2003
IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles (if you like WW2 flightsims)
Deus Ex is incredible. No other way to describe it. -
FarCry
HL2
BattleFIeld series -
F.E.A.R
great game -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Half life 2 for sure. Company of heroes!
-
Heroes III (1999)
Monkey island 1-3 (1990, 1991, 1997)
Fallout 1 & 2 (1997, 1998)
Warcraft III (2002) -
Depends on what your in too.
FPS: HL2, CS:S, Battlefield series(either battlefield 2 or 2142)
RTS: ive only played Supreme Commander and its fun
MMORPG: WoW, City of Heroes/Villians
I just updated my comp also and Battlefield 2142 is a lot of fun, i still love Counter-Strike. -
Rise of Nations, if you like RTS.
-
Well, this topic is certainly letting us know how old everyone is.
-
I'm 20. I just like old games. Add Warcraft II (1995) to that list.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Metal gear solid!
-
-
They tend to have better stories. And Then there's the entire Adventure genre that barely exists anymore. I still hold that Curse of monkey Island (monkey island III) is the funniest game I've played.
Add Grim Fandango (1998) to that list. -
Great list from everyone so far. Now I've just got to pick 2 or 3 of them. I mostly like RTS or FPS games, but I don't need to have the latest and greatest. -
total annihilation!!!
starcraft!!!
MAGIC SCHOOL BUS >.< -
Kings Quest is kinda fun, but not a must have game.
Magic school bus on the other hand..
The OP has played and liked Starcraft. -
Anyways, Half-Life 2 is a must. -
Duke Nukem 3D =. It is still a amazing experience! Dont Forget Dark Reign! I think that game was better and more balanced than starcraft. SC2 will be better though =)
-
^Duke Nukem, now those were the days.
-
I kinda giggle at those times since i was guilty of that too hehe.
-
Quake I (1996). Freaking sweet. The soundtrack was awesom (nine inch nails did it)
-
-
-
I doubt it. Duke Nukem 3D >>>>> Crysis. DN3D was something completely new: you could interact with lots more than earlier, you could move in more directions (up), you could blow up oh so many things. What will crysis bring that's bleeding edge? DX10? They won't be the first...
-
-
3DRealms are planning the sequel of Duke Nukem forever. But honestly, I think people will be waiting forever for "forever". It's gonna be released when PS5 or PS6 is released. At the earliest.
-
Microsoft Flight Simulator FTW!!!
not really for the past few years, but the past 20 years...hehe -
-
Kings Quest!! =D
100th post. -
I don't think most people will remember crysis 10 years from now.
-
Tribes (especially the RPG mod)
Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike Source
KZMod (Half-Life 2 mod) -
Did anyone here play Stunts? It was an application that ran in DOS. It was a car racing game by Broderbund published in 1990, the year in which I was born. I think it's safe to say it was the first video game I've ever played. I loved it then and just recently downloaded it and installed it. I still love it now.
-
Defiantly check out:
-Half Life 2
and
-Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142 -
I played Populous forever ... I have to laugh now at how limited it was. But at the time, a must-have!
-
But yeah, I played it all the time when I was a kid. Real fun.
Add Jazz Jackrabbit to the list. -
Quake made my head hurt >.< i got dissy after 2 hours of getting killed by this OMGF@(#)#(@!)(#)@!(#_ @!93- boss... and taht was in the demo version rofl
-
HELLO KITTY!
I'd say get The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion for that matter. Get Morrowind GOTY and wait for Oblivion GOTY and you'll be set with hours and hours of gameplay.
Doom 3 and Quake 4.
But in my opinion you already have the only game you'll ever need. Starcraft.
-
I know this will be blasphemous to many of you, and likely get me flamed, but I never liked Starcraft. It just wasn't fun. I much prefer Warcraft II or Warcraft III. And I definitly prefer the Heroes of might and magic series,
-
But none the less, to each his own!
Personally Starcraft and Half-Life in my opinion are the two best games ever made. Simply because it kept me playing it no matter what. Theres so many damn good games out there but i always end up still playing either starcraft of a half life based mod.
Consistency. -
I agree with Komosomol. I classify a good game as entertaining until you finish it but a great game is a game that you play even after you've finished it. Starcraft and Diablo II kept me playing like a MAD MAN!

I do like the Zerg and the Protoss, though. -
any of you played Turok? Thats a classic!
-
Oregeon Trail: Deluxe edition for MS-DOS.
