Here is my rundown on Modern Warfare 2. Game installed fine, no problems there, I was a little worried because a lot of people were having problems with the disc's and a lot of people were also having problems with Windows 7 64 bit. After installing the game, of course the first thing I did was went straight to options. Options were very Basic, no longer giving us the right to change our user names was a big let down, especially because I prefer to play with the name <s|t> *R*, but instead was left just using the name Trast, because of my steam account. The option to change DOF was still there, and I got to change resolution to 1900x1050, so that was good. All the controls were easily changed to my liking and sounds also.

After I got done configuring the game I clicked the play online option, It brought up a warning telling me I should play SP before MP, I didn't hesitate when I clicked "No", and I was on my way to the next screen. After choosing from a list of extremely limited options, FFA or TDM I clicked find a game. Immediately I was matched up with 11 other players, and after about 15 or so seconds my game began...

Playing the game was ok, moved a lot like cod4/cod5, but different maps, I played on 4 or 5 different maps, and they seemed like pretty fun maps, better than cod4 stock maps when it first came out. The graphics are better, and at no times did I ever notice any lag, on my side or any others side. Perhaps I was the host, but I still don't know how to tell yet who is host, but at no time did I experience a host migration.

After the first game, I got maybe 5 seconds to say "gg" before we were thrust into a lobby where chatting isn't allowed except by mic, and from there I got to customize weapons and all that, It does seem to give you more time to do that than in cod4, but after I have gotten all the achievements unlocked, That time will just be spent siting there and waiting.

I played the game for about 1.5-2 hours, and overall with the game play I was thoroughly impressed.
It will be probably a few weeks, I will get to the highest prestige level (more time because I have a wife and kids and school to contend with), and after that I will most likely install Cod5 again and play it for the next year or so until cod7 comes out. This game has lost a huge amount of the prestige (no pun intended) it once held with the fact that there is no more community, It is basically a game to just start, play, finish turn off, there is nothing to keep me playing, as for having to pay for DLC, I am not worried, because by the time DLC comes out, I wont even be playing this game anymore. IW made a great game with great support features, ie. mouse, keyboard, graphics options, but the one thing they forgot to make support for was the community, this game does not come with "Community support" and that is where in my opinion the grade level is, it is just like watching a good movie with a bad ending, if the ending stinks, instantly it transforms a good movie into a bad movie, and just like the movie IW has transformed a good game into a bad one, all because of one option, dedicated servers.
I have not played the SP yet, but I imagine it to be not to different than MP, in the aspect of just playing with random AI/players that I don't get to really converse with.
All in all I give the game a fair 1 Star, because Community support is what truly makes a PC game, not IWNet.

From what I read the game seems like upgraded CoD 4, witch is nice. Too bad there no community support tho'....ehhh I don't understand IW
-
Part of what made CoD4 so special to me was the single player. Try giving that a shot as well.
-
I will be playing dragon age and borderlands till this is like half off or some crap on steam.
Way to screw a great thing up IW. -
Single player is awesome, try it out mate...
so much different stuff than to cod4 on sp.
some awesome missions, i think the third mission in the airport is going to raise some people moaning i think personally, due to the content of that mission.
you know what i mean when you play it -
summary: it's now a console game. get it on a console or don't get it at all.
-
p.s. that is not what he said at all - stop trolling/flame baiting. -
Ok. I understand you are mad about iws choices but give the game a fair review based on the gameplay and the performance and then you should actually play the single player before saying you reviewed it. Based on what you said I don't get the whole one star score

MP = 4 stars, Great game = 1 star.
They failed on MP therefore only earned 1 star. -
-
after my 7 hour nightmare with steam and discs i finally manage to get it loaded.
great single and multiplay so far. graphics are great and gameplay is great.
nuff said. -

The problem is, this isn't a game ill still be playing in a year like cod4
there is no community to keep me interested longer than getting everything unlocked.
I view MP has just another form of SP, because all I am doing is playing to unlock the game, like you would do in a SP game anyways. -
Lucky for me then; I've never been much of a team player. I play for the challenge and the ranking.
Your review says 5 stars to me. -

Whats wrong with Fox news, as iff cnn and msnbc dont have a left wing agenda, people just complaing about fow news because it leans to the "right" side.

I actually didn't want to end up bringing up politics, but if you are telling me they're more left then Fox is right, then that is a mistake

great online gameplay, similar to CoD4 but improved... better graphics, no lag...
1 Star!!!! ftw -
It doesn't just lean right. They actually say things that are 100% incorrect as fact and report it like its news to promote the right's agenda. This is why people have problems with Fox news. Take it from me. I'm a fiscal conservative and I won't watch that crap. I've watched msnbc and cnn even though they don't often catch me as great either and while they do lean left on so many things there does seem to be a bit more investment in reality on those channels. I want my news to tell me like it is. Not be riddled with biased commentary reported as fact.
Sounds like there isn't much reason to get MW2 to me until its a bargain deal on steam. -

to be totally honest, the install process was not meant to be complicated...
install steam and create a steam account if you have not already done so.
insert disc 1.
select install on the pop up menu.
insert disc 2 when prompted. -

It is not the installation, but the lack of community support, Unlike cod4 your just throw in to a game the pause all the time to find a host when the host leaves, that is ridicules, unacceptable even.
I Like most community gamers, like to choose which server I want to play on, not like my taste get dictated for me by someone (IW) that has no idea what my tastes are. I like to join a server that I know bans cheats, hackers are already running wild in a game that IW claimed was going to be a cheat-free experience because of IWNet.
So far every good reason for IWNet has turned out to be not true, with unsmooth games more lag, and choppy game play 60% of the time.
Their Signal bar system is all messed up, 2 bars is around a 180ms ping, and it is common to be playing in a game filled with people with only 2-3 bars.
I have edited my config file to give me a better idea, changing the amount of bars shown from 4 to 10 and the majority of people in the games I have played in have shown most people with 2-5 bars.
Here is a better view of the ping system:
10 bars >20ms and under
9 bars >40ms and under
8 bars >60ms and under
7 bars >80ms and under
6 bars >100ms and under
5 bars >120ms and under
4 bars >140ms and under
3 bars >160ms and under
2 bars >180ms and under
1 bar >200ms and under
This is why IW uses the bar system instead of the pinging system, they don't want you to see that your playing with people with 200ms pings and unless you edit the config, you will see their 4 bar system and think 3 bars isnt that bad, but really it is around 100ms.
Coming from someone who has played online fps since 1999 and on dedicated servers since cod1, this game Fails horribly for MP.
as for Foxnews, I would still rather her the truth riddle with bias reporting than the alternative. But to each their own, right?
