Is this good for my CPU? i just downloaded 3Dmark06 and i have no idea what is considered "good" cuz i have never used 3Dmark before
My score is:
2753 @ store clocks
-
1. 3DMark measures GPU performance.
2. It's "stock" clocks.
3. Yes, if you ran it at 1280x800, you're fine. -
1) woops
2) Oh yeah
3) great! they best computer has like...32000 something 3Dmarksim far behind
-
Actually, 3dmark measure BOTH cpu and gpu performance.
The score sounds about right for your system. -
Is it a good score? :S
-
what are your temps before and after the OC? (idle and full load)
Also what drivers are you using? -
Change drivers and you'll get another 100 to 200 points. Overclock and you'll get around 500 to 800 points more.
-
You're not far behind, those 32000 point systems are insanse water cooled multi-gpu set-ups with the works.
-
The 32k results are more for the overclocking club people with liquid nitro, double quad core, triple 8800 ultras (all liquid nitrogen cooled and overclocked like crazy) for basically just one test...
-
Also consider your score down another 400 points or so, since you are running it at 1280x800 not 1280x1024, which is the default resolution. If you can run it on an external monitor that can display 1280x1024, then you can get a good comparison.
Then again, most people don't consider 3dMark06 to be a good gauge of a machines performance in real world gaming, so meh. -
My drivers for Vista 32-bit are 174.31
i havent OC'd my GPU yet cuz i dont have a laptop cooler yet
GPU temps are : 52C on casual internet browsing
73~C while gaming
What drivers would give me those extra 200 pts on 3Dmark06 -

Dude it's 3D Bungholiomarks, worry about game stability and performance first.
Since you're new to 3Dmark this is an attempted intervention before you start worrying about your eWang more than actual gaming.
Don't fall into the trap about caring about the synthetics. If you want we can provide you with hacked optimized drivers that will boost the heck out of your 'score' but offer you greater instability and poor performance/IQ in games.
Best thing to do is to treat 3Dmark as a 'is everything running ok?' test situation, where you consider your main score and sub scores and keep them for future reference and then when you NEED to change something (newer drivers from nV, more rame, new HDD), then revisist it to see if you have any changes/issues. Running it as a loop is a good burn-in / stability test.
Treat 3Dmark as a stability and baseline test for your system, don't get caught up in Bungholiomark scores, especially not on a laptop.
Just go enjoy some games, they're more fun, even if 3Dmark is prettier than some games. -
Thanks true, but im just wondering cuz i see lots of people peaking 5000 in 3D marks
-

do u think someone could score high if they had a crap gfx but had the best CPU? lol.
-
Well, as the name of the test says, its a 3D benchmark, which depends mostly on the GPU, like all 3D apps. But a better CPU will give you a better 3Dmark score (note that you wount jump from 2700 to ie. 4000 by changing the cpu), not that you would get much out of it for gaming, as the 2,4 ghz you got now, is plenty of power to a 8400M GPU gamingwise.
Look at my sig, that lappy would probberly raise its scores from the 8500 to breaking 9k by changing to a T9300 (2,5 ghz) CPU.
