I'm seriously tempted by the upgrade, but three things are preventing me from going ahead:
1. Cash is tight.
2. Want to go to SSD first.
3. I love Badaboom too much to give it up.![]()

How fast does it run on your system? I average about 30-35 fps on DVD content, 12-15 fps on 720p content, and 3-6 fps on 1080p.
-
I didn't use it for a long time (Badaboom 1.1). Just tried it on 1280*720p contents with 4000 bps. With my gpu clocked at 700/1750 i get a regular 17 fps and with 620/1550 a regular 15,5 fps or so. The memory clock seems to have no impact on performances only core and shaders do. When i lower the bitrate to 2000 bps it goes to about 18 fps but the compression quality starts to decrease at such a low bitrate.
Edit : Just tried to reencode a 720*576 divx with 620/1550 and 4000 bps. I got 50 fps. Then a 1920*1080p .mov trailer and got 10 fps.
When you think that the cpu isn't even used that's crazy, i can't wait to find a software that uses both cpu and gpu in compression tasks ! -
Good to know that the VRAM doesn't make an impact - time to set up a new nTune profile with slightly more sane clocks.
-
okay wth is badaboom and why wouldn't it work on the 4650.
-
I've made some additional tests and can confirm that gpu's memory clock doesn't make a significant difference for me when using Badaboom.
Badaboom is a H264 video encoding software that uses Nvidia's CUDA technology. To make it simple it allows you to encode HD videos using your gpu power. Don't know if there is a ATI/AMD equivalent.

@ Wolfman7: Good to know my vBIOS is treating you well!
@ Meaker: WOW like 10% higher in Vantage! AMAZING! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah the lead in vantage shows how much compute power it has.
Peak temperature was during Eve and vantage at 73C, 3dmark 06 was around 68C while overclocked. -
Meaker, have you tried Furmark yet at those clock speeds? I'd be curious to see what kind of temps you get after 10 minutes or so.
-
My 9500M gs only gets to 78 in furmark at max oc
sp lets see for my soon to be HD 4650
atleast if that replacement store is going to sell them again! :/
Does anyone confirm this is trustable? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
they are seling them.
-
Thx -
Well, technically they weren't in stock when any of us ordered. That's why it took so friggin' long for us to get our cards. They order them from Acer and then when they get them, they ship them out to us. Beyond that, maybe you should email them and ask.

Hi, wolfman7 where did u buy that liquid metal sheet?
AND Thermal pad 50W/mk , [I WAAANT IT] -
Actually it's called a liquid metalpad. Here's the official website (I think):
http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/product_metalpad.shtml
If you google it I'm sure you'll find some online retailers that are selling it. Bought mine at a local computer store here in Japan.
The thermal pad I found at the same store though haven't been able to find any online. Here is that manufacturer's website:
http://www.widework.co.jp/pc/contents14.html
It's all in Japanese but if you scroll down the page, you can see the different grades of thermal pads and their specifications. -
By the way, what's the difference between 3dmark and Vantage ??? Never tried Vantage. According to Meaker, 4650 DDR2 >9600M GT DDR3 in Vantage bench, so what does it mean in short ????

The thermal pad is 0.5mm thick and I was really worried it might not be thick enough because it was mentioned throughout the thread that there was a good 1mm or greater gap there, but it's working perfectly for me. I'm guessing that could be because I also replaced the original thermal pads on the memory chips with the newer ones. The old memory chip pads are thicker than the 0.5mm ones I used so I think that helped to bring the gpu closer to the heatsink so I didn't need to fill a 1mm gap. One sheet of the 50W/mk pad was enough for the gpu and 3 out of the 4 memory chips so I recommend getting at least 2.

HI, guys is there any possibility to buy HD 4650 [DDR3 version], because I think that DDR2 memory is bottleneck of this card, throughput of this card is realy important.
-
We all think like you. Sadly no MXM II DDR3 version FTM ;-) The only hope is the 4670 of the MSI EX625.
-
We 've got 3 laptops from MSI [EX625, GX623, GX733] with same HD 4670, so far
. I 'll wait a little while for a seller. It's gonna be for sale in maximum 2 months [I think
]
-
how long does the order take from that icp parts shop? like, if i order today, how long will it take?
-
It took 2 weeks to arrive for me (Ontario, Canada).
I think I've been running my 4650 for about 4 weeks now, and no compaints. Recently I played Dawn of War 2, a game that often dropped below 10FPS on low settings with my 8600m GT. I run it now on medium and never hit below 30, a MASSIVE improvement. -
Please, can u write me a link for HD4650 to buy. I'm thinking of buying one. There are two possibilities to buy, IPC computer and Acer parts, Right?
Thanks -
Is there a possibility to order it straight from acer itself? Don't wan't to waste money on a middleman
-
I'd surely want to go part time working just so I could get one of those cards, man even if it were just a DDR2 version I could only imagine how far of a cry it would be from my 9300M GS! lol although, I'd definitely wait out for the 4670 or a DDR3 MXM-II 4650 if that would come..but it's correct to assume that even though your system came with a GPU that has a DDR2 memory, that it could handle those with DDR3, right? -
-
Acer Extensa 4630G is fairly the same size as a 14.1" Aspire notebook, although the built is a bit more simple, and perhaps thinner (and it easily broke the LCD lol) and as I understood the 5920G is a 15.4" notebook. So would that be a factor with regards to heat? -
And hell, it might be fine at normal clocks...I honestly doubt it though. I'm 100% sure that if you undervolt like I'm saying and just underclock a TINY amount, you can run it MORE than safe (below 80C) -
One thing though, you said you got your card from a 6930G? -
You can't change fan settings through the vBIOS in laptops since it is usually controlled by the BIOS.
The fan settings are designed to be used with desktop GPUs. -
-
classic77, you won't believe this.

GPU-Z screenshot for proof, otherwise as TehSuigi said, it's the same GPU which classic77 is already running
-
I know, just looking good!! If they don't reply fast by mail, im just going to call them.
-
Wow, I don't believe it...if this is legit I'll be PISSED
-
-
That makes two of us Classic77
!
-
im just going to buy one i think
-
Actually this seems to be the same part number as the one we got. The box that mine came in had a few stickers with the part number and specs on it though the biggest sticker had the same part number on it but listed it as 1GB DDR3.500MHZ which is obviously incorrect. So I'm guessing it's a typo on their part.
-
Sehr geehrter Kunde,
thats a mistake its DDR2. thanks for pointing that out.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
kind regards

I know man. Feels like .
-
I'm propably not going to buy one.
1) It's not ddr3. So not really a worth-it upgrade.
2) My 9500M GS is a bit too good (5234 3Dmark06 score) to trow that away and waste 200 money on 1K more score.
3) I don't want unnessesairy work like, copper mod, ... I don't know.
Just not in the mood to 'waste' 200 -
-
lol...so you did order one?
My 5920g...WITH A HD 4650! (need help)
