Hey guys, somebody asked me how Gears of War peforms on my laptop so I thought I'd post some screens to show briefly how Gears and Crysis did with my laptop and maybe also see if the peformance I'm getting is in line with people who have similar laptops as mine.

This could also be a reference for people, if they wanted to know how this type of laptop peforms before they buy.

    Main specs Inspiron 1520 - T7520 2.0ghz, 2GB ram, 256mb 8600M GT DDR2 and Vista Premium

Drivers are from LaptopVideo2Go which is 167.45, I just got em from the 'latest drivers' section.

    Crysis
With Crysis I played it DX9 mode by right-clicking the game and selecting that option to get better frame rates.

These fps may not look that good but I personally found that it was just playable. An easy, simple way to increase the fps is to just set the shadows to low or just lower the resolution.

I mostly got 18-20fps and sometimes 1 or 2 fps higher or lower. These won't be considered that good and some would not want these but like I said I found it ok and considering that this is being played on a Laptop I think its not that bad.

I guess if you also overclock the card, a little better peformance can be achieved.

8fps here but the explosions happen so quick so its not a big problem.

    This tree started floating.

I had already taken the shots but found that with these settings below the peformance didn't change much and I still got mostly 18-20fps.

'Game effects' setting is basically how quick bodies disappear. The 'physics' and 'particles' settings also didn't affect much peformance when set to high. The main peformance impact is shadows and shaders as you guys may already know of; these settings still offered 'playable' gameplay on my laptop.

    Gears of War
With Gears the game was set at 1280x720 resolution and everything maxed out but no DX10. I haven't played it in a while but I've been getting mostly around the 30fps region although as you can see it does dip sometimes and be over the place but mostly throughout the game its been around 30fps.

With DX10 settings enabled I still had playable framerates but didn't notice any difference in visual quality so instead of losing a few fps I'd rather play it in DX9.

So what ya guys think, are you getting better or similar peformance at these settings or have any other comments.

Lol There were more but I wasn't sure on which ones to pick, so I thought I'd give a bunch so we can see that the peformance is constant.

I think one of the Gears screenshots you took was from a prerendered video. I was always wondering why I was getting a constant 30fps during cutscenes, lol.

Yeah I noticed that most of the cutscenes were actually at 30fps but a few did dip like the cutscene in the second image.

Yeah Gears does dip a bit, but it's not because of your system, it's the game itself. Has stuttering issues.

Nice 8600 review, that's a lot of screenshots. I have yet to play Gears of War but it looks fantastic on your machine. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Thanks, I had a little time on my hands and I was looking for screens of Crysis on a 8600M GT but couldn't find any out there so thought I'd create one myself. :)

I have read about the stuttering issues and other bugs that Gears has but at least I can play it nicely at max settings without much trouble which I can't say the same about Rainbow Six Vegas which was a poor port.
