Ok I've run BF2 for 3 years so I know it's an old game... The game loads fine, but when it tell it to Join Server, nothing happens for 5 minutes then I get 'Connection Lost'. It will play single player, it connects to account server, it does everything except play multiplayer.
I've updated Video Drivers, Clicked the box for XP SP2 compatibility, LAN drivers are updated. I've uninstalled/reinstalled and patched. I've turned off/on all firewalls, run as administrator and my refresh rate on the CPU is 60hrtz. I'm at a loss, I know this system will run the HELL out of BF2, but for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't connect.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wetz

Well I got to ask, have you tried other servers?
I'm at a stump as well, not sure why you can't connect. :/ -
Truly is a mystery.
Also I'm not sure how tech-savvy you are, but was it necessary to post every tiny detail about your notebook? -
I wonder if PunkBuster is messing something up.

If nothing works, you're welcome to visit our forums at www.realitymod.com/forums. We're a BF2 mod community and I'm sure a few of our members might have had similar problems to share any information on how they solved it.

Must be punkbuster, try reinstalling it.
Also what kind of servers are you joining into? and what version BF2 do you have? -
Try updating the game with the latest patch.

Updating PunkBuster with PBSetup -
Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
I agree with the consensus... re-install punkbuster. Also, running it as an administrator is a must, every time.

Thanks for the suggestions so far...
My apologies for the long list of specs, but I wanted to avoid providing too little information.
Ok.. PB updated at the site suggested. Disabled Windows Defender.... Still won't connect to a multiplayer server of the same version...
Server list populates, I single click the server and the ping will go from say 70 to 2500 and the messege is You Lost Connection to the Server. If I choose join server the game locks up or gives me the same messege..
I'm doing or have something wrong, but man I don't know what it is...
Thanks again for the help, headed to the link provided above for more help... -
Have you installed the latest BF2 patch?
-
Vista used to give me problems with BF2 also, just make sure your firewall will let it through, I had to change it for windows firewall.
-
try asking on the forums at bf2player.com.. it's a fantastic BF2 resource and a lot of the regulars there are really knowledgeable on BF2 troubleshooting.

Nice laptop, I really kinda want the M50Vm-B1 anyways.
If it was punkbuster I am sure you would get a error from punkbuster, or get into the server and then get the booted error and it would say punkbuster booted you.
BF2 is one of those games that things just go strange on it sometimes, same with 2142.
I would do a fresh install of the game perhaps to start with. Windows firewall will block your game, so connect and then tab over and hit "ok for this connection" and tell it to remember the setting.
Whats happening to you is 99.9% not a hardware issue its definitely software based.
Hows the game play for you by the way on the M50?
Oh and a last guess of mine is that your CD key went bad and got banned or something. Its possible that something like that can happen to you even if you own a legit copy of the game if somebody happened to keygen your key and do something stupid to get banned. -
Thanks for the help.... Yes I've patched the game.. with the current patch. My BF2 account is current and functional as I can use it on my gaming rig tower which is sitting right next to my laptop.
When I click on a server, the ping will be 70 then it will jump to 2500... Weird..
