    Laptop in Sig.

It has happened before and lately it has been happening all the time. While playing Counter Strike Source online, it freezes and my speakers make that horrible sound. then 30 seconds later it turns to a blue screen with print. "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer"etc... "If this happens again uninstall any new hardware" blah blah. Now i know CSS has lag on most server but this is like a game card problem i think. i have also turned settings down to medium (which i shouldnt have to do with my setup/gpu.) I have played CSS many a time before with no problems on this laptop. When this happens the only thing i can do to turn the laptop off is pull the ac and take out the battery.

I have played religiously on high settings, FEAR, QUAKE 4, HITMAN BLOOD MONEY, all the gpu/RAM demanding games with no problems.

What the heck is goin on

yea, when things like that happen the first step is to re-clock anything back to manufacterer's stock as well as reset the voltage to original values.

Still crashing. Before this, i recently uninstalled my norton and installed AVG Free version as well as AdAware SE. I also am using my stock Windows SP2 firewall.

Yesterday i installed the Catalyst drivers from Chaz's "Update video drivers thread sticky" are these the 6.9's and are they good?

Just read that the Omegas are not as stable and sometimes have issues but ? I downloaded the Catalyst link from Chaz's guide not sure if thats the latest 6.9's? Anyway the crash and blue screen of death only happens with CSS online. I run FEAR at high settings and Quake4 and Hitman Blood Money all with no problems...just when playing CSS it crashes? Any ideas?

Should i try the Omegas 6.9 over what i have now? prolly not much of a diff.

The link to download the ATI Catalyst drivers in my guide is always updated; whatever you download from it is the latest ATI has to offer.

I'm not sure what to tell you about CS:S. Try running the Video Source test and see if that crashes.

don't believe everything you read..i've always used omega's and they work for me..if you don't trust me go ahead and get the official ati drivers..if you can find them on the website...ati likes to make it difficult for the us lappy users lol

the source test should be in the section where you can modify video card settings (i may be wrong..haven't played source since i started my job)

Thanks. The lastest ATI drivers are the ones im using (6.9) and you can do a direct download through Chaz's driver sticky at the top of this forum (as i did). Im sure the omegas arent dangerous i just dont see the point in using them if they dont perform much better then the ATI's? Also i know where the source test is i was just wondering what it is exactly?

this is what i ssaid to another person on another thread

    i have(had) same problem with css and hl2 e2
my professional conclusion was that it was the 6.9 drivers
after my reformat, i had original dell drivers and they both worked fine
i got 6.9 and then constant lock ups.
your stuck, believe me the only way i was able to play both gamse with 6.9 drivers was in dx7.
so you should try sys restore back to old dell drivers, and then you might get a windows error(which i got plenty of times) or you might not
go to their websitre and get the older drivers

believe me if i told you all the things i did to try to get steam to run good, yuod die before my list was doen.
    *********
*********BTW i have the same EXACT setup (ie 6400 1 gig memory 2 gig processer i think) but with the 512 hyper threading X1400
