Yeah so I took the plunge and got a Compaq v4000t after reading about the instant $300 rebate. I had been seriously considering it's twin, the dv4000, for about a month. Should be here in a couple weeks! Here are the specs:

    – Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz)
    – 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    – 128MB ATI MOBILITY(TM) RADEON(R) X700
    – 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (1x512MB)
    – 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    – DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    – FREE Upgrade to 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/125HSM
    – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    Total (after $50 MIR) = $1288.00-shipped

Very nice machine. The 5400RPM drive is huge performance wise.

Congrats on your new machine! Great choice, I like that laptop very much. :)

Good thing you got the 12-cell - you'll get nearly 5 hours with that! :D

    Live it up man...

    Thanks Chaz

You saved me from getting the Acer 4402 a couple weeks back, I'm sure the P-M and 128mb X700 are gonna make a huge difference. I'll slap another 512mb of DDR2 in when I get it...didn't feel like spending 100 bucks for hp/compaq to do it for me. After that I should probably be expecting a 3dMark05 score of about 2300!

Yes - good thing you went for the 128MB card - I got about 1100 OC'ed with my TM4402 - the extra memory makes a huge difference!

You are right about the RAM, it is much cheaper to do it yourself.

I think all notebook manufactueres should give us the option of having things like no OS, no ram, no hard drive, etc.

The only problem with that is that it will be hard to render warrenty support. What i feel is that they should give us total flexibility on the video card and processor and etc. so that we can really get the machine we want.
