My laptop has a very slow starting time for games. Is there anything I can do to improve it's performance? I turned the graphic quality way down, but I'm mostly worried about the start-up & minimize time it takes. My laptop is pretty old, like 2003.

By slow starting time, do you mean the time it takes to load the levels before you can play them?

It could be that your hard drive needs replacement, 5 years is a long time for a HDD and its performance has most likely degraded much.

My brother's desktop hard drive is 4 years old and just this week, has started to become extremely slow, HDTune reports it has having only 6mb/sec transfer rate maximum when it used to be around 60! Games now are taking much longer to load on it.

I don't think the graphics quality would affect the start-up at all or at most a little, it will affect the performance in the game itself.

The laptop takes a good 4 minutes during the loading up of the game, once the game's up its fine. It also takes about 2 minutes just to close. This problems been going on a while now.

might be like Rahul said. it sounds like it could be due to your hdd getting old. perhaps replacing it with a newer one will decrease loading times. do applications also start up sluggish?

I don't think that HDD also affects closing time-BTW,you might want to post your laptop's spec.

    Yea, I'd highly recommend defragging.

My comp is pretty old too like 4 years old and when I was trying to get Need for Speed Undercover working on it, a good defrag basically solved most of my problems.

it aint any usual problem. defragging and any kind of cleaning doesnt help. its just strange that when starting game screen turms dark and prosessor does nothing, after 2-5 minutes prosessor starts prosessing and game works fine. And when closing the game same thing happens
