not very much, sports games aren't known to be difficult to run. Especially something like a small basketball court with 10 players to render.
-
insanechinaman Notebook Evangelist
NBA 2k10 wasn't that easy to run on max though. I run it at medium perfectly, but if I go to high the fps drops dramatically.
Then again, 2k10 was released too soon and had FPS issues from day one. Hopefully 2k11 fixed all of the bugs 2k10 had. -
I am able to run max settings in nba2k10 with a 2.4 core 2 duo processor and mobility ATI 3870 512mb GPU.
-
nba 2k10 took some serious laptop hardware to run at 1080p
i dont know how multithreaded it was but it also made good use of the cpu. -
Well I ran 2k10 maxxed out at 1080p 60fps except for 2xAA and crowd on low. How different will 2k11 be?
-
Running 2K10 on maximum settings at the moment, but it is pretty CPU intensive. Sometimes the temps go pretty high even though my laptop tends to stay near the 70C range.
I could more or less expect the same from 2K11 -
-
no I got 22 incher hooked up and my laptop never gos over 60c playing that game.
-
Anybody know if the requirements have changed. Obviously they don't mean much but if they haven't changed then I can buy the game knowing what kind of performance I get.
-
Any help?
I don't want to buy a game I can't run to at least how good it looks on a console -
I guess I can pirate it to make sure it runs and then buy it.
2K just lost 30 buck thanks to you basketball haters -
Any word on whether or not 2K11 is coming to Steam?
-
-
I tried it on onlive and it was good so I bought it. it runs the same as last year maybe a little better but with sharper graphics. Its a more polished game and the presentation is great. definitely worth saving 30 bucks over the console version
-
Did some benchmarking,
t9600 3.0ghz dual core
Gt 240m at 330m speeds (48 shaders)
320 GB 7200
4GB DDr2 800
I run it maxxed out 53fps except for 2x AA on a 22" 1920 x 1080 with Vsync which is better than the console version
BUT, I have major tearing issues, is this a widespread problem or only on PC
It actually runs better than last year which I played with on the same settings but with the crowd and sideline turned off.
The graphics are definitely worse but still smoother looking. Which is great for performance (zooming in on garnettes face after a dunk isn't as spectacular)
Update these are my settings at 56 fps notice how its all on max except for MSAA

I picked it up off of Steam last night. Ran it on all high except for crowd detail which i set to low and it ran acceptable, thinking 25-30ish fps but also did have some screen tearing.
-
i run it all high at 1600x900 with 8x anitializing at 60fps..xD
-
hows the gameplay?
do the sliders need tweaking for a more realistic experience like 2k10; or is it good by default.
i actually enjoyed running 2k10 in simulation/coach mode, where id just watch and strategize/coach from the sidelines. -
everything is improved especially the ball handling
there is much more control,
the scores are actual NBA scores now, -
These are the best settings I could come up with on a laptop but because notebook hardware specs change so often baically this

Hello people. I'm thinking about buying this game for the PC. I'd prefer not to buy a game controller, so how does it feel playing this game on a keyboard/mouse, if anyone does that? Is it hard, awkward, or (insert any other adjective)
? Should I just get a controller or are the keyboard and mouse manageable (which controller do you recommend)?
On another note, I've heard a few gripes about some sort of stuttering with the PC version of this game. Is the stuttering that bad or that widespread? I also heard the online is pretty much non-functional...I really hope all these things can be fixed if they are problems because I really want to get this game. Any comments appreciated. -
insanechinaman Notebook Evangelist
I've had some stuttering with the game, but it's not too bad. I've tweaked it here and there and the stuttering is barely noticeable now (or maybe I just got used to it). I tried online a few days ago. Bad mistake. It was extremely slow. The game was running at like... 30% speed and trying to do any dribble moves was a pain. Timing for free throws was even worse.
The game itself is very nice, and I've been playing it whenever I have time. The association mode is great, gameplay is much better than 2k10, but My Player mode still needs improvements. Your teammates are pretty much the biggest idiots in the world, and they never pass you the ball on a fast break or screen and roll. -
Yes of course you need a controller nobody I have ever seen plays sports games using a keyboard unless its one of those backyard baseball games.
Any dual analog controller will work. I use a logitech dual analog and it works great on every game and still feels new after 4 years of NBA live 06, 08, NBA 2K9, 2K10, 2K11.
Just use my instructions and you will max it out with no stutter or tearing. Anyways you have a ATI card so there isn't supposed to be any stutter anyway. Which I think is because this is a 360 port.

@insanechinaman, Thanks for your comment. I expected to hear that the keyboard would be "painful." FPS (and a few other genres: RTS, MMO) are probably the only genres of gaming that aren't painful with the keyboard and the mouse
. I guess I'll just go with the 360 controller as it seems to have the best compatibility with most games on PC. I'll get the controller first, then go for the game. This would be the first basketball game I've bought since like EA's NBA Live 2005 (and that was on console).
@lebob23, Thanks as well for the settings. I'm going to test out the game first to see how bad the stuttering appears to be. Then if I think it's unmanageable, I'll definitely come back to your post and try out the D3D settings. First things first though...the controller. -
Get it's awesome possibly the best feeling sports game for PC since NBA live 05, Which I played until 2K9
-
do you get realistic stats? i dont mean just believable scores, but also the right amoint of rebounds steals, assists, etc.
nba 2k10 came really close. i played it at 11min with tweaked settings. however i always play coach mode. i just like watching the game as a simulation.
nba live 05 must have been the funnest sports game ive ever played but it was definitely too arcadey. 2k10 came in 2nd. -
Yeah me too.
In 2K11 the stats are correct with a small amount of tweaking of steals and blocks. For example some players have slow releases that are easy to block. Like KG who I block three plus times in a short game with Evan turner. But obviously those problems can easily be fixed
The only problem I have with the game at this moment is how it gets stuck between quarters and the excessive half time report.
Here's a new mod that will put this game higher than the 360 and PS3 version. It fixes the shadows that were for some reason disabled in the PC version. It doesn't affect performance and can easily be removed so use it. Download 2k11 PC Shadow Fix uPDATE.rar -
what do you mean by it gets stuck between quarters?
i remember tweaking the hell out of nba 2k10 till i got some very good quality, realistic games. assists were a little too high, but defense was superb.
if you understand basketball then you just cant play nba live if you want realistic ball. -
Playing since 2k09 and have to say 2k11 is great. I've only been through the Jordan challenges to unlock him for a career mode.
Its very nice that it comes with a few slider sets right out of the box (realism, casual, etc), which radically change gameplay. Although i expect to follow the 2k11 forum (on nba-live.com) to get a custom set of 'realism' sliders usaully paired with a custom roster that adjusts players skills/tendancies.
Easy things to spot in the first couple hours of play. Defense is improved, rare to pass through someone now. They removed crossover and spin controller buttons, so it is all isomotion now (hard adjustment for those used to one button spins and crossovers, but feels better). You can't just do a couple dribble moves and blow by someone unless you are a lot better than the defender.
Example being with a younger Jordan in the first 4-5 challenges covering his early playoff and finals appearances I could drive and get to the rim almost at will. For the later challenges I had to adjust my play with him to drive to the free throw line and use hop step/gather or fade away to get a good shot off.
Hard to judge the realism of the 2k sliders when you play as Jourdan, but i will say every version of NBA 2k i have played the sliders have enough affect to dial in the gameplay to your preferences.
One other new item i noticed is they added real play shooting % to be available to floor shots. It has been available for free throws for a long time, but it might allow for even more realism on floor shots (or help those that can't get release timings down).
Edit, Just wanted to add: Playing on PC, 360 controller supported directly by the game (past had to mod in icons to match controller). -
That's all true but the game has some bugs it needs worked out.
-
there really arent reviews of this game on ign and gamespot yet
i bought it just now.
gonna install and test after work -
Well I just picked it up and played for a bit.
It runs a LOT smoother than NBA 2K10 (at least on my machine).
I like the new features, and the Jordan challenges. So far I am enjoying it. -
just ran a com vs com 12min on sim, all star.
everything on high no aa , no vsync i get 77-79 fps on the benchmark
it ran better than nba 2k10. there is a slight stutter on the default camera but its barely noticeable. i remember tweaking cloth setting in nba 2k10 and when i did it made use of multiple cores.
i think nba 2k10 and 2k11 are among the few games that use multicores, mainly for the cloth movement effects which it passes of to the cpu (rather than the gpu). my ore i7quad could be responsible for smoothing out some of that stutter some people refer to.
simwise , 2k11 is also much better than 2k10. the scores i got were about 10points higher than i would like, but nothing a few tweaking can fix.
fouls were more frequent and defence was more intense. the computer didnt double as agressively as i would like but again nothing a few tweaking cant correct.
all in all the best, most realistic basketball experience you will get on a game.
graphics were also improved a bit, but this was not necessarily important for me. -
You will see the bugs as you play a little more they are definitely there. Altough they do not affect the game on the court it still needs a patch.
@trvlbug
If you use the settings mod and program that I posted a few days ago, then it will run on your notebook completely maxxed out with no stuttering or tearing.

-
Of course YOU will but it was also meant to help those with weaker systems
-
@lebob23
yes, but i was just replying to your post above. i was actually quite surprised that it ran so well and looked good, considering your comments and the ign review. also, my screen looked much sharper/better quality than the pics you posted, but it could be because of a number of factors (camera, lighting, screen quality etc) rather than due to your tweaks. -
@trvelbug
My tweaks were so that it would run better on lower end systems the one I made for high end systems was not tested.
Out of curiosity can you post your config file -

Alright peeps, I got the game and the 360 controller. Controller worked with the game right out of the box, which was sweet (only needed to install controller software). Now maybe it's just me, but this game is running marvelously on my system. I'm running all graphic settings maxed at native resolution (1080), 8x AA (only cause it didn't really impact frames), and medium crowd detail. Absolutely no problems so far, I was very impressed as my fps never dropped below 30 and frequently hovered near the 50s-60s. Now I haven't tried the online, which supposedly tunes down graphic settings and doesn't run so well. However, if you go to the 2k forums, you'll learn that a patch is already in the works. So hopefully that fixes the online problems and any other major outstanding issues. I really love the game though, and I can't believe PC users are lucky enough to get this for $30 max,
. Gotta love PC gaming...and good job 2K games.
-
^ I agree. The one flaw I don't like in the game, is that I can't adjust my Difficulty setting to Rookie in the "My Player" mode. The lowest it goes to is Pro.
I'm not saying I'm bad at the game, but I would like to have easy opponents so I can just sit back and relax while playing.
Oh, and I don't like the controls to do a ISO motion. I don't like having to pull a trigger, and then use the stick (I use the Xbox controller as well).
Edit: I also forgot, they didn't update the menu to the new one on PC. If you look on the 360 and PS3 version, there is a new menu (which looks good IMO), but they gave PC the old crappy looking/annoying to navigate menu. -
It ran perfectly fine for me the day I bought it but now when I load up the season I had started, it crashes a couple minutes into the game and sends me back to the desktop. Anybody else having this happen?
-
Maybe something got deleted, and the game needs to be re-installed?
After a quick Google search, this is what I found: NBA 2K11 Freezing, Crashing, Errors, Start, Sound Problems Fix - Free device drivers Download
Hope this helped. -
Thanks for the response Tank Jones. I'm going to try to re-install it through Steam and hope that that works. I hope to not have to try a new a new driver because the one I'm using (258.96) works really well with all the other games I play.
