In a separate thread I made an idea that we as a community instead of relying on other sites that are nether updated or current for our gpu (and maybe cpu) benchmarks that we take the initiative and come up with our own charts!
Of course we would need a way to standardized the scores and keep the actually information but I volunteer and maybe another person or 2 to keep the charts current and updated to our best ability's...
Heres my idea's for standardized tests:
all of these benchmarks to run 3 times and take the average that way in case your computer was doing something the first time it could be better the next
3dmark 06 (or current version) at stock settings
passmark (current version) at stock settings
etc
and maybe a few games that are actually pc games and not unoptimzed ports for example
source engine games
maybe a current mmo
racing such as maybe dirt 2
another idea is maybe some software such as video editing/converting software that uses gpu acceleration (but these could be inaccurate since one might favor ati stream over cuda and vise versa)
What do you guys think??

That would be nice. I am always trying to find gaming performance charts for overclocked GPU's in laptops and it's pretty hard to get a good grasp on what an overclocked card can do compared to a stock one. My suggestion would be to add an overclocked section so those of us looking for those scores can find them here.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I think we should get the games that are most played no matter if they are a port or not, I would see the thread about new games for NBR reviews.
I also think that this needs to be a community maintained thing, so that we can get results better and faster. A mods help would be invaluable, since we could get people from the gaming side of things that post the results and direct here.
I think it is a good idea to get help from each section of the board. I can help right with some benchmarks for the 4670m GDDR3, although we hit another wall, that is game availability, I mostly play strategy games. But that should be a non issue when we reach enough mass that people would find a nice idea to contribute. -
This is a good idea, but I don't know how many info we can gather since not everyone (or even majority of the people here) have the time to do all benchmarking subjectively.
An OC database on top of this benchmark chart is better. -
Start the process, by first collecting 3DMark Vantage runs, and make sure they are all done at stock frequencies and @ 1280x1024.
That's the most efficient way to begin a preliminary database.
PLEASE do not include 3DMark06. -
I am going to take the first steps to getting something done by creating a sheet for getting down info... I say for now lets just start with 3dmark vantage ... if anyone wants to help the cause for right now just send me a pm with:
Brand of laptop
Model of laptop
Cpu
Ram type, amount, speed
Gpu brand and model
then a pic of the 3dmark score
For Example of my laptop if I were to submit it:
Brand= HP
Model = Envy 15
Cpu = i5 520m
Ram = 2 x 4gb ddr3 1066 (it is really 1333 i installed but it clocks down so just include what it runs at)
Gpu = Ati 5830 1024gb ddr3
Benchmarks:
3dmark vantage = a url of the picture of your score
Ill be keeping a list here https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...01JdXg4cE9Jd2UzYlF6dVE&hl=en&authkey=CMKSkLwJ
and will find a way to make somekind of graphical chart of the info once I can get a few models -
Cut out Passmark too. It provides no context for gaming hierarchies.
-
fine.... it was just an idea....but i guess just 3dmark for right now till we all can agree on a game if any or other benchmarks
-
Plasma maintained a similar type of chart a while back, here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...bile-gpu-gaming-performance-chart-plasma.html -
something similar but actually updated and maybe with more detail instead of just high or medium because now a days games have (should have) a ton of graphic options in their menus and can be optimized through ini files and the like
of course giving him credit I am going to take his info and expand it a little
edit:
the css engine and hl2 have been updated since he got his info.. -
Here's an OC'ed 5870 @835/1090 1.05V with an i5-430M @ 3.1GHz, standard gaming clocks (stable)
