Private servers for WoW are almost always, if not always slow and unstable. What are you running yours on? Good luck with it, it could be a cool idea.

hmm.. doesn't this forum have a rule against piracy talk?

Running a WoW private server is piracy after all. btw, each client takes about 25kb/s x 8 x C of upload bandwidth. (c being the number of clients) Going by Kbits, each client would take 200kbp/s as an example, my network could theoretically have 250 clients. A standard broadband upload speed of 1Mbp/s could host a server with no more than 5 clients before they experience lag.

I play on a private server and this would be super cool if the server was actually really nice and operational. But the point of wow is the amount of people there a NBR only sever + friends would never get very full. However if we got a few guys together to go do stuff at certain times that could be fun. Like having the whole world to yourself.

I think I would check it out just to see what its like. I hate bliz like tho, I play on a x60 server. Considering that there will not be a lot of players unless you know for sure the server will be up 24/7 and never have issues you may want to make it more like a fun server.

Your upload is insane btw unknown.... I have a faster downstream 20mb/s but I only have 2.5 up. Thats how it normally is never seen a higher upload than download except for some server only applications.

I don't really get the private WoW server thing. People I knew did the same thing with Everquest. You can modify the rules to your liking...that's great and all...except WoW isn't really very much fun without those rules giving your "accomplishments" meaning. Plus, it gets kinda lonely.

To each his own, I suppose.

I tried playing on a private server before because it was free. The leveling system was abit messed up.

I'd play on a private server if someone wanted to schedule certain events just for fun to run with NBR crowd. But since we can't copy our existing characters I wouldn't wanna play on private servers full time, I love my 70s too much. What servers does everyone play on?

Wait, is this free even if you don't have an account or what? I have no idea what a private server is so...

Yeah, private servers are run by players and they're free to play on. You can download the client itself from the Blizz website I think without having the game CDs. This is what I'm going to do for my new laptop since I lost my CDs when I moved, instead of having to buy the game all over again.

Yeah free because you only pay to be on the blizzard server.
