My NFS Shift crashes after the first video (where the cars race and crash and stuff). How can I fix this? I tried running it in XP SP3 and 98/ME compatibility, same effect. It crashes on the part where it says checking to see what level of driving is right for you.

crash to desktop or complete system freeze?
-
Mine crashes when I set the texture quality to medium, crashes at the start of the race. Doesn't when set to high.
-
game must be flawed... EA better come up with a patch soon...
-
-
I heard ATI cards are only affected by this problem because the same thing was happening on ATI desktop cards as well
The demo works for me no crashes yet but i havent messed with the settings of it yet like textures settings. Hopefully EA will release a patch of it soon -
Anyone got a solution?
-
Try reinstalling.
-
download the latest graphics driver?
-
yeah, i got the same prob
had it in high for textures, no problem.
put on medium, crashed to desktop at beginning of race, then put it back on high, and did the same crap. -
reinstalling, and just going to use the settings that were automatic.
EDIT: So...it didnt work, i dont frikin get it. I played it fine the first time w/o changing the settings and now I reinstalled it, without changing the settings and still crashes right before the race (only when I begin tapping the gas) -

Did you try the latest graphics drivers?
If you did and it didn't work, try disabling Catalyst AI in the Catalyst Control Center. -
No need to re-install, just delete that and start the game again, it will set the game to the default gfx settings.
Also, when you uninstall stuff, use something like Revo Uninstaller, that way it will completely delete everything, ie: folders, registry settings etc... -
If I use default graphics it uses some ugly VGA low quality settings that make me feel like I am using an integrated 128 MB Intel video chip ...
-
On my M17, the graphics are all messed up, is that a widespread problem?
-
do you have AA on?
-
Im going to try it with 9.6 drivers. and then 9.8 if that fails.
Edit: Game works fine for me with 9.6 drivers
1920x1200, no AA, Low shadows, rest High -

Same is happening here. Played it multiple times last night, but when I'm about to launch of the starting line I get a CTD.
I don't think the graphics settings are to blame. -

I think I read somewhere that it might be a conflict with aero on vista and 7, so try turning aero off?

Deleted that graphics config file, no change. Crashes on the Tier 1 Manufacturers races (so far all of them but the Skyline 2000-GTR race, which I haven't tried) either once I'm in the cockpit or once I leave the line.
Updating my drivers but my computer's already telling me that I have the best drivers for my 260M's so I doubt that will have anything to do with the issue. -

Does anyone have any sort of fix? SHIFT has been rendered unplayable because of this
-

Okay, so deleting the graphics config file does work, but that shouldn't be the final solution.
At the optimal settings I run at 30 FPS. It may sound fine, but it's choppy quite often.
I guess I'll go one by one on the options that I turn always turn off and find the culprit (if this is of any help, the sky is black at times). -

Woot! Changing everything to High made the game work for me!

Does it run well?
-
Could Aero be the problem, has anyone tried disabling it?
-
ok, the problem i had was outdated display driver. well it wasnt, really outdated, but i had 9.5 and got rid of it and installed 9.6 which isnt new either, but it solved the problem.
And it was the same problem where i would enter a game, and then right as soon as im bout to begin, crashes to desktop.
Do you have the most up to date displat driver? -
I'm actually on 9.2, xD
-
haha and it works on it??
thats awesome
Edit: Do you want to add me to ur friends? my sn is mrd33ds ;x
havent found anyone that plays it yet -
It works but the graphics become wonky as soon as I start playing.
-Which driver do you recommend I use? -
I'm using Dox 185.85 running fine, 30 - 40 fps, high settings.
change the gfx settings low and it crashes for me also... but it's fine with the gfx settings as default. -
the only reason im using 9.6 is because I already had it downloaded to my computer lol.
buy yeah, it works fine for me on 9.6 -
my game crashed so i had to turn the AA and AF to x2 in order to fix that crash.
now i play at 30+ FPS -
youll prolly enjoy it more with no AA, I dont see any difference except more frames with 0AA
-
I tried 9.8 drivers and yet I still have the same problem, :/
-
I have 9.9 drivers

I played it today and had an issue that was related to graphics settings saving.
The first time I played on my desktop with my 37" TV 1920x1080 the game ran fine and when I restarted the game with my new graphics settings it ran fine.
Later I tried to play @ 5760x1200 and the game crashed every time I tried to start it, tried 1920x1200 and the game crashed soon as I started it.
I tried 1920x1080 and the game started fine.
This lead me to believe there is some issues with this game in how it saves settings. I started at 1920x1080 and lowered the resolution down to the lowest one, and then I was able to start the game with 5760x1200 and change the settings to what I wanted. -
Hi, I had the same problem that all of you guys above...
MY SOLUTION was this: After I tried with different Catalysts versions I tried updating my mother's BIOS and VOILA!!
Crysis, GTA IV, NFS SHIFT and so on, all games are working perfectly
FYI: No matter what happens with NFS Shift DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT uninstall PhysX. I assumed that since I was having an ATI card that wouldn't be important... turned out I was wrong.
Hope it helped
HM.
