    as the title says.
    I was wondering about the
heat from NVIDIA GT 230M when only browsing internet & doing MS office
    compare to
Intel x4500MHD heat when full performance?

Actually I'm referring the GT 230M to VAIO CW's GPU
and the Intel 4500MHD for the notebooks' IGP in general.

    Any input will be appreciated.
    Sorry for my english.
    Thanks. :)

I'd assume the 4500MHD would produce slightly less heat on load since it would still have a slightly lower power consumption (given the same cooling capability and assuming no other components are stressed).

I don't know much about the Intel 4500 but I have a 230M in my Sony CW. It usually idles at around 33-38C so I'd imagine that the Intel 4500 gets hotter than this when it's under full load.

    Hi thx for replying.
How about your room temperature? :)
Do you use extra cooling fan under laptop?

My room temperature is comfortable. I don't have a thermometer so I can't give you an accurate measurement but it's decent - neither too cold nor too hot. And I do not use an extra cooling fan under my laptop, although my Zalman NC1000 is sitting here on my desk being completely useless. I'll definitely start using it soon just to cool it even further.

Uh. I have an Nvidia 230M on my laptop (a DV7-3080us).

It runs at 50 - 55 when doing normal things (Running Internet Explorer, Visual Studio, MSN, Microsoft Word).
It runs at 65 - 70 when gaming (Playing Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Fallout 3, The Sims 3).

I noticed when rendering alot of 2D, the graphics card seems to make alot of wierd noises too, you may notice it when scrolling on a webpage, I develop a few small apps when I have free time and it does the same thing on the 2D game i'm developing, it also seems to have problems running the N'vidia bendy logo screen saver.

Anyways, I probably said too much... I just registered to let you know this information, other than this stuff, I really love this graphics card!

You can't compare between the two exactly. All IGP solutions are never standalone parts, so they have to share a cooling solution, in this case, PCI Express and Memory Controller of the 4 series chipsets. Video cards on the other hand, has a seperate cooling.

The desktop IGP chipsets usually run at 55-60C, but the IGP doesn't add a lot, if at all. Power-wise, even the most frugal discrete graphics cards use more power in idle than 4500MHD does at load. Geforce GT 230M isn't exactly lowest end, or for that matter, low power.

This is a.... strange train of thought. A discrete GPU is in a whole different class of power consumption and heat.

Those are allright temps in Hp laptops as they don't have good cooling ... if u want better idle temps , i recommend u use 197.16 drivers or 195.62 drivers and the following riva tuner tweak.. it will ensure u don't have any powermixer issues and idle and load temps drop as it it undervolts in a way...
