How does this compare to Dox's 180.44?

Ok it's a coincidence this came out when I woke up today, but all last night I was testing out different drivers on my Toshiba x305 with a single 9700m gts.

Here is a post I put up last night on the "nvidia 180.44 downclocking problem" thread concerning Dox's 180.44. They results for my x305 wasn't very good.

"Dox I've tried the 180.44 and it was going good until I unplugged my notebook and it downclocked I also tested 3dm6 and lost 300 points.

First of all, I did this by using fraps and observing my framerate at a beginning of a stage for reference to compare my results.

Before I updated to your 180.44 I was getting a good solid 30 fps with your custom 178.24 on a certain stage in Call of Duty W@W with my notebook plugged in. I then unplugged and the framerate never dropped it stayed at 30 fps. So I created a restore point and updated to your 180.44. It installed properly and first thing I did was load the same stage of COD W@W and observed the framerate it was the same 30 fps with my notebook plugged in. I then unplugged and it dropped to 12 fps. So I wasn't planning on keeping it and wanted to try the 176.75 drivers and even those were downclocking running on just battery. I did a driver sweeper and tried to go back and install your 178.24 drivers and now those downclock as well.

Fortunatley I made a restore point before testing and went back before I ever had a downclocking problem, so now I can game again without downclocking.

I would warn anyone now that buys a new gaming notebook before they update there video drivers to see if it downclocks when they unplug, because chances are that the notebook won't downclock at all and you can game as if you were plugged in, but if you do update and lose your ability to game on battery because of the driver downclocking, you'll naturally assume it was like that to begin with and without a restore point you'll have ruined it beyond repair, because rolling back or trying to reinstall the previous driver won't give you back that ability to game on battery."

Okay now I woke up and checked the laptopvideo2go site and 180.48 was out whql. I downloaded and installed, again on my x305 q701 with single 9700m gts. Again performance in game was horrible. For me the first thing I want to check is if it will downclock and lose frames per second while gaming on just battery, so after installing 180.48 with modded inf from laptopvid2go, I loaded COD W@W and ran it with my notebook plugged in. Using Fraps I observed lower fps than Dox's 178.24 and when I unplugged my notebook the fps drop to 4-8 fps. So I went back to 178.24.

Dox if you could customized this just the way that you did 178.24 especially the way 178.24 doesn't downclock on battery. then I'll try and give it another shot, but as of right now the only laptopvid2go driver for the Toshiba x305 with single 9700m gts that will enhance the performance is Dox's 178.24 ver 1.1 for Vista 64. Unless someone else can tell me.

I'm not sure, as I think Dox is a modded laptop driver? This driver is the version for desktop GPUs. You'll have to compare it to Dox 180.48 when released or the driver on laptopvideo2go.

you serious? I've lost 1/2 my framerates on Call of Duty W@W and it downclocks badly on battery. I don't have farcry to test, but I did test Dox's 180.44 on COD W@W, Bioshock, Cod4, Fallout3, and same results I lost fps and ability to game on battery, and being this is 180.xx series I guess they would be pretty much the same.

I ve only tested FarCry2 and Crysis warhead. Farcry2 getts a much better minimum score but Crysis stays about the same or maybe a little better but its hard to notice 2fps. I havent tested COD WAW or COD4 but I ll give it a try.

    PS.
I dont even think I have a battery in my laptop so downclocking dont bother me at all :)

Gaming on battery is essential for me especially since it's a notebook, infact I'm here now at Starbucks without my powerbrick and just played 3 maps of Cod4 multiplayer, before I logged onto these forums and battery is still showing 64%. I can actually lug around this 17 inch Toshiba x305 without the extra weight of the powerbrick and still game. Although problem now is finding drivers that'll enhance performance and not hinder anything else. Hopefully Dox customises this driver to perform just like his 178.24 drivers, but I'm thinking since I already tried it and notice performance loss than I'll probably just have to wait till Toshiba releases it's next driver.

the 178.24 and 180.44 of my drivers has the same settings in powermizer :O
Its nvidia breaking things in the new drivers.

they are not to blame because these are desktop drivers we are using :)
If you wish to get max perf on battery use drivers from toshiba like you say.

Or use the inclucded powermizer switch to turn off powermizer.
Not ideal but better than nothing.

    regards

Oh no! So you're saying 178.24 is the last driver from laptopvideo2go that'll be able to work for my Toshiba X305 q701 without performance issues?

Toshiba takes along time to release updated vid drivers, and they don't boost the performance as much as the nvidia desktop releases.

Is there anyway you can implement code or whatever it is in the Toshiba drivers that keep the notebook from downclocking on battery and put it in the modded inf or newly released drivers? And what makes your 178.24 custom driver not downclock when on battery? Finally, Are you gonna customize this 180.48 whql release and how safe is the powermizer switch? I installed it with your 180.44 but worried about using it.

Forgive all the inquiries, but updating my video drivers and laptopvideo2go is a very important resource for enhancing my notebook performance and it would be a tradegy if I can no longer use it.

I wont be making individual drivers based on each individual user needs.
Or modify the .dll for one user's specific needs. I'm not a company you know.
These are FREE drivers and I do it in my spare time.

I'm not saying that the 178.24 will be the last drivers that wihout "performance issues", (most people see gains in my 180.44 vs 178.24 in real games).

as for 180.48 Custom forceware... my laptop is in for repairs (Im on an ati laptop - custom Catalyst anyone? :D )

The tools i use to mod the drivers are on that laptop which is in repairs :(

No problem Dox, Thanks for your tireless efforts, and I'll keep on trying the new releases you put out. I understand that the prob may just be related to my particular model and I see alot of other users benefit from your work.
