The 8400mGS is a fairly powerful update of the older Go7400. It's a mid-range graphics card that should be able to handle all games out right now at at least medium detail.

If you configure the current Dell e1505 with the x1400 and whatever options you want, figure another $100-$150 on top of that. Possibly less, but probably no more than that.b

The 8400mGS is better than the x1400, probably by around 30%

The 8400M GS would be faster. It won't be massively faster, but it should be the faster graphics card. If you want a little more power, you may want to consider the 8400M GT or the 8600M GS, as they are much more powerful compared to the 8400M GS.

Yeh, I'll just add that it is a really nice graphics card and it can play most games.

    I assume he's talking about the 8400GS. :)

I'm also planning on picking up the m1330 before I go back to school. It's really one of the only well built laptops that will have a decent battery life, HDMI port and be around a 12-14" screensize from what I can tell!

The 8400gs is twice as powerful as the 7400 from what I've read. Pretty impressive for such a small laptop. :D

am curious about something please help. This is directly from the information from hP.

The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8400M GS delivers improved quality and performance levels in 3D graphics. If configured with the 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 128MB dedicated memory and up to 255MB shared memory. If configured with the 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 128MB dedicated memory and up to 767MB shared memory.

What would happen if you have 4gbs of system Memory, which is now offered from Hp. Would this be a sweet gaming setup for a cheap price then. I know if running 32-bit vista it would only recognize 3gbs, but what would the shared memory total be. I am pretty new at this and am curious about how good this setup would be.

I was told my new Dell Inspirion 1520 was to have a nVidia geForce 8600M with dedicated 256MB but it came as you wrote with 8400M GS 128MB. Does anyone know if I can increase the memory to 256? Does anyone know what the difference is in price and effectiveness? Any other info on dealing with this problem? Any suggestions?
Would you return the laptop? Thanks

The 8400M-GS is only about half as powerful as the 8600M-GT. If you plan on any gaming, I would definitely return the laptop.
