    Hello!

I'm relatively new to benchmarking but yesterday I thought I would test this laptop out. It's a HP DV9576EA with the 8600M GS 256MB Dedicated. I am using 163.69 ForceWare version drivers :)

Can someone tell me if these results are good. They don't look to good to me :(

What can I do to improve it?

    Thanks,

2299 marks...thats alright for a 8600GS...you might want to try new drivers such as 169.04 :)

Thanks, so this card isn't going to be able to play any new games. How well will it do with Crysis?

What options should I set it to? 1440 x 900?

    Thanks

With Crysis you probably won't be able to play at native res... ''maybe'' lowest settings on 1280...

    have you checked on laptopvideo2go.com?

You should be able to run UT3 because it is very well optimised (z).

Also you should check in the ''Can My Notebook Run It'' Thread to see what games you can run :)

It's a decent machine, you'll be able to play all of the latest games including Crysis on it. Don't expect ultra settings with Crysis but it will definitely be playable at reduced detail levels. Don't feel bad about not being able to play Crysis at high settings because the only cards that can do that are priced substantially higher (Go7950GTX/8800M-GTX).

If you want to do some in-game benchmarking, download FRAPS and install it:
    http://www.fraps.com/
Then start it, go to the FPS tab, check the "Stop benchmark automatically after 60 seconds", and also check "MinMaxAvg" and "FPS". Then when you play a game, press F11 to start the 60 second benchmark . . . it will record your FPS for 60 seconds and then generate stats. The log file is called FRAPSLOG.txt and is found in C:\FRAPS or whatever directory you installed it to.

Just gave it a go on medium settings:
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
    341 60000 0 11 5.683

Still a bit slow and laggy.

What should the FPS be for smooth gameplay?

    Thanks

    Update:

    Low Settings
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
    703 60000 8 17 11.717

    Any good?

The general target for smooth gameplay in FPS games is 30fps and up. An average of 5 is definitely not smooth so you need to turn down a few settings for your desired game.

    So

    Low Settings
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
    703 60000 8 17 11.717

is really bad? So this game is not really for my laptop?f

    Thanks

Which game is this? If it's a recently released FPS then lower the resolution and other eyecandy settings best as you can until gameplay starts becoming smoother. Then raise a few settings until you get a good mix between eyecandy and playability.

Thanks. It's Crysis, I'm using a 1440 x 900 screen. What should it be set to in game to give me decent performance. When them tests were run it was 1280 x 854.

Thanks for your time :) I really appreciate it!

Try 1024 resolution and lower your settings to low/medium. The GS variant isn't powerful enough to run at your screen's native resolution.

Put the resolution down to 800x600 if 1024x768 doesn't work and the settings to medium, see how it does then. Shaders and Shadows are the two biggest performance affecting settings, so play around with those. Keep textures on high.

Get better drivers as well. The 169.04 version give a boost in fps.

Thanks for all your tips. I am using the 169.04 version :-D

I set everything to low and on 1024 resolution. I was getting 25 FPS.

    What's better:

    Medium settings 800 x 600?
    Low settings 1024x768?

    Thanks!

Try both and see which one looks and runs better.

Remember that 4:3 resolutions (1024x768 and 800x600) look stretched on a widescreen. You can change the scaling in the driver settings so that resolutions keep their aspect ratio when not widescreen. You'll get black bars on top or on the sides, though it still looks better IMO.

Yes, the black bars at the side don't really affect me :-D

As long as the game is nice and fast and looks decent that's really what matters.

    Thanks

I have the 9500t. Use the 169.04 Driver. Use RivaTuner not Ntune and bring the Core and Shader Core up to spec. 600/1200 the memory is DDR2 so it will not go up to nvidia web sites specs. 400 is actually the correct setting (I overclocked it a little up to 480) 3DMark06- 2950
