    Which is better? Is there a HUGE difference?


    In fact, what does each number and the last two letters mean? I've seen 9300 rated lower than 8700 etc etc...


    Please help.

    Its the second number which matters.
    The 7 in 8700 dictates that the graphics card is a higher end enthusiast level.
    The 3 in 9300 means that its a lower end card designed to be a step above intel integrated and a huge step behind performance cards.
    The 8700GT is a much better card than the 9300GT.
    But back to the actual comparison. The 8 series is an older series than the 9 series cards. However the 8700GT is more powerful, but that performance comes at higher temperatures and possible core problems which the mobile 8 series nvidia cards had.
    The 9600mGT is a good card and will play most games that you throw at it.
    It is probably harder to fins a system with a 8700mGT in it because those laptops were pretty much phased out.
