NVIDIA GeForce v186.42 WHQL Drivers Released (ALL CURRENT NOTEBOOKS SUPPORTED)

New NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro drivers have been released, version 186.42 for Windows Vista and Windows 7. They originate from Microsoft Update and are compatible with just about every notebook GPU from the GeForce 6 generation onwards due to the NV_WHQL.inf file in the packages, regardless of OEM. In case you're wondering, these drivers also contain support for all currently supported desktop GeForce and Quadro GPUs as well. Obviously, these drivers are WHQL Certified.

WOW I got SOLID ~110 more pts in 3Dmark06 - my score now is 4709 pts and temps are the same as on 186.03 drivers

I ran 3Dmark05 too and I got ~ 140 more pts now - 8543 total

Thx for the link. Installed fine (9800m gtx) and seem to run fine fps and temp wise with Crysis Wars. In display properties its now saying my refresh rate is 62Hz instead of 60Hz though.

 

Thanks for the heads up, id be much more interested in increased or decreased in game performance rather than some benchmarks...any noticable increase in FPS or perhaps more stability while in game?

Holy HELL, hopefully this will fix all the Nvidia Driver Kernel Driver errors some people on Windows 7 sites have been getting. And Teh Suigi i will have to do the same as well. Will have to re install Windows 7 RTM again. And install these drivers brand fresh. Hopefully this is the last time i will have to do this.

im tempted as well mate, but id really like to hear about in-game performances, i dot care to much for benchmarks, the drivers that gave me the highest benchmark gave me terrible in-game performance, thats when i decided to flag benchmarks....so if anyone has played a few different games with these drivers id love to hear how they performed.

Well! I have tested 186.42 WHQL vs DOX 185.85 on my laptop.
3Dmark06 Benchmark : 186.42 WHQL = 4750
DOX 185.85 = 4749
old 186.03(LOL) = 4703
So, basically, they(except 186.03) are about the same.
REAL/TRUE games : Same too. LOL.

1 thing weird is here, that WHQL logo is not available in the dxdiag.
The 186.42 is WHQL certified right? It should have the logo?


Lastly, 186.42 driver update is not available in WINDOWS UPDATE.
It is crazy to have it in WINDOWS UPDATE. Because I never get any NVIDIA/ATi update via WINDOWS UPDATE for years.

 

The drivers work anyway and aren't released by a group of crackers to sabotage our GPU's

Looks like these drivers were worth the wait!

 

They are not avaible from Nvidia's website or Windows 7 update. I will wait until they have released it on their website!

 

The desktop drivers benchmark and FPS look awful and sucks.
I got a better FPS and benchmark with DOX 185.85 and Nvidia geforce 186.42.
The Nvidia geforce 186.03 is slightly weaker for my laptop.

Just played some Section 8 Beta, and the performance increase is rather noticeable; Where it used to drop down to the 20's with a lot of smoke and fire effects at once, it doesn't seem to anymore.

Played some CoD WaW on 186.42
Noticed a slight improvement now I can play with extra high and x2 AA

 

Will be changing over once I pull a backup of my system state as is.

 

KK, tehsuigi i re installed my OS and installed these drivers on W7. And like Shadow1990 said, it increased my performance in Section 8 beta. Its a great driver and i would reccomend it to anyone.

Very stable release with great performance increase. Reccomend it to any1.

 

A good stable driver, nothing else to say really.

 

I have tested many official Nvidia Drivers and these are the only ones so far that come close to, if not match up to the performance of Dox Optimised 185.85.

Dox Optimised 185.85 gives me slightly better, smoother performance in GTA IV but so far, 186.42 are the only drivers that haven't introduced stuttering in GTA IV so this is very encouraging.

I got the exact same score as before.

 

My 3dmark06 score improved by 100 pts (compared to tweakforce 190.15 drivers).

 

I got the exact same score in 3DMark06, and I can't see a big differents. Maybe a little in CoD4

 

I'm not seeing too much of an improvement in Overlord 2 compared to the last set of Dox drivers I used, but it's there and the drivers seem stable so far.

 

Just looking at GPU-Z after playing some games, and it seems these drivers fail to downclock the GPU after exiting a game.

Anybody else seeing this?

 

OK, that's a dealbreaker. I like my PowerMizer too much to give it up for 100 points in 3DMark06.

Yeah i'm seeing it too. My fan doesn't come on nearly as often as before. I am really liking this driver.

After running the 3dMark06 3 times, on each driver, there was a 2 degree difference in maximum GPU temperature, with the updated driver performing better. Downclocking wasn't noticeably slower after completing the tests.

 

You can add custom resolutions to use with games in the nvidia control panel under 'manage custom resolutions'.

 

Seems like a good set of drivers, just reinstalled Windows 7 so im certainly gonna try these out... The missing "custom resolutions" in the CP started to bother me too.. Glad they sorted that out too...
