Please note that this driver has support for the upcoming GeForce 300M series (see below for product support).

My goodness, when it rains it pours -- just a week after the NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro v186.42 drivers were released, version 186.82 for Windows Vista and Windows 7 is now available (Windows XP users, see end of post). They originate from Microsoft Update and are compatible with just about every notebook GPU from the GeForce 6 generation onwards due to the NV_WHQL.inf file in the packages, regardless of OEM. In case you're wondering, these drivers also contain support for all currently supported desktop GeForce and Quadro GPUs as well. Obviously, these drivers are WHQL Certified.

Nice find, going to try this right away. The last 186.42 gives me identical performance to the dox's 185.85, hope this one excels.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Btw, the Nvidia site only offers the 186.81 drivers, with a build date of 27.08.2009, which seem to be newer?

Either way, I'll test both lol.

Microsoft is sure pumping out new NVIDIA drivers for all of us to share -- it's been only a week and we've had three WHQL releases with complete support across the entire line of desktop and notebook graphics cards: 186.42, 186.78, and now 186.82. :D

Plus, the team at LaptopVideo2Go are aware of these new drivers and their links should also be up shortly. :)

Well, I didn't realize v186.81 was out too starting today. It's REALLY raining in new drivers. 27.08.2009 is the release date, and not the build date of the driver. Thanks for sharing the driver info!

Edit: It seems that NVIDIA is offering Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the v186.81 driver. Here are the links.

    32-bit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winxp_186.81_whql.html

LOL! I can't believe drivers are everywhere now.
I do a complain to Nvidia recently(maybe not just my complain, perhaps a lot of users), and now it releases the drivers like crazy.
Anyone test out these drivers yet? Benchmarks please. LOL.

I'll post both the 186.81 and 186.82 results in here, to save making a new thread.

    186.81
    Tropics Average FPS: 23.5
    Scores: 591
    3DMark 06: 9277

    186.82
    Tropics Average FPS: 23.5
    Scores: 591
    3DMark 06: 9292

Pretty good score, but doesn't beat 186.03/185.85 (Dox Optimized) for my system though.

I tested 186.81, and I can tell it sucks for my system definitely.
    186.42 give me 4800. 186.81 gives me 4720.
    Now, I gonna test 186.82.

Be sure to benchmark a game (I used Unigine as an example), as the 3D Mark 06 scores are usually far off from what the driver performs like in 3D applications.

Tested v186.82 and it score about 4778 for my system.
Basically, v186.42 and Dox 185.85 still better than these newly released drivers.

    v186.03 = v186.81

So many drivers, and 186.81 are actually coming from Nvidia themselves!
That might be enough to get me to swap drivers at some point soon.

186.81 is a solid driver and a worthy replacement for 186.03. This is a good Crysis run, only bested by Dox 182.46, but I prefer an up-to-date driver with the most stability.

Not worth updating from 186.42 (maybe from 186.03), only adds 300M support and there is a drop in performance.

186.81 is the official mobile driver, so I'm sticking with that. There will not be any real difference between all of these anyway (one frame per second variance), other than Powermizer issues.

There's no good reason to delay DX11 any longer, I see no reason to belive they'd release next gen cards without it.

you lost sound because 186.82 does not have the sound drivers in it. they need to be installed separate if you have the nvidia sound. what i had to do was use both the 82 for the gpu and then use 81 and uncheck the graphics and just leave the audio driver checked

also 186.82 IS NEWER than 186.81

82 is from 8/20 and 81 is from 8/19 if you open the inf's and check

Weird, I don't have the sound problems.
However, I don't know why v186.81 have very sucks performance. But v186.82 have superior performance than v186.81 a lot. 50-100 points difference.
    1 more strange question is,
Why Nvidia Official website v186.81 is so large in size(138MB), while v186.81 from LaptopVideo2Go is only so small(63.47MB)?

Performance is practically identical on my machine at stock clocks between 186.03 and 186.81, and when overclocked it's off by only 2 points.
Keeping 186.81 because it seems to have slightly better performance on SM3.0/HDR than .03 (and conversely worse performance on SM2.0).

I have PhysX from v186.82(LaptopVideo2Go) if not mistaken. It doesn't matter, I just know Nvidia website v186.81 sucks. v186.82(LaptopVideo2Go/MS) is WAY better.

    OK!
Very easy method to explain. GPU not driver. Driver is the same(geforce).

    8-series:
    Bigger size
    Higher Temperature
    Higher Voltage needed
Performance(10%) slightly weaker than 9-series(eg: compared using same model like 8800 vs 9800)
Due to higher temperature, chance being toasted is higher(8400 and 8600 issues).
    Basically Core:Shader ratio is 1:2.

    9-series:
    Smaller size
    Lower Temperature
    Lower Voltage needed
Performance(10%) slight higher than 8-series(eg: compared using same model like 8800 vs 9800).
Due to lower temperature, the chance being toasted is lower too.
    Core:Shader ratio is 1:2.5(some is still 1:2).

I was referring to the drivers, but the information on the line of NVIDIA cards is enlightening too, thanks :D

So if the drivers are identical between the 186.XX and the 190.XX, what's the point of having two separate sets of drivers that need to be upgraded? I'm currently using 190.62 with a modified INF to support my GT 130M, but when I was trying out 186.XX, none of them supported my 130M either except the 186.03 from the NVIDIA site.

You should tell 18X.XX vs 19X.XX instead of "9-series" or "8-series".
19X.XX is currently known as modded or non-WHQL or beta drivers. They are basically for desktop geforce GPU but some people have modify them. So, they can be installed to notebook geforce GPU. Some people notice performance(minority) gain with 19X.XX driver. However, some people(minority) doesn't notice any performance gain and sometime even sucker than before.
18X.XX is basically(currently) for notebook geforce GPU. It have modded one and non-WHQL and beta too. Since they're made/mean for notebook, it is safer and better to use them. Some people(majority) noticed performance boost with 18X.XX but some didn't. Moreover, 18X.XX is stabler than 19X.XX.

Ah, I didn't know "8 and 9 series of drivers" could be that misinterpreted, heh.

Thanks for the answers, I appreciate it.

When I am trying to install the new drivers from NVidia, I only get to choose to install the sound drivers. When checking on the NVidia homepage hardware check, it tells me to install the ASUS drivers. They are way old though, from May and verson 179.xxx or something.

Anyone knows how to make the installer install the NVidia drivers for the graphic card?

    I've got a ASUS N51Vf-series with a GT 130M card...

Got it to work when I was finally able to download the 186.82 drivers from MS. Previously, I have only tried the 186.81 drivers from NVidia, the 186.82 worked fine!

I'm back to the 186.42 one's, since these give me better performance.

    The official Nvidia's 186.81 gave me over 400 pts less in 3Dmark05 - ~8100, with 186.42's I get ~8550

Agreed. The official Nvidia's 186.81 from Nvidia official website really sucks.
I tested it on 3DMark06, it got almost 80points lower than 186.42 and 186.82.
    Now, I am on 186.82.

Your 9500m GS must be very highly OC'ed since my 9650m GT is suppossed to be much better yet it scores 4750 in 3Dmark06 :p - 50 less than your 9500m GS, I didn't do any OC yet tho'...I wonder how high could I go and how much could I squezze out from my 9650m GT - currently I get 73' C in stress

I was using the v186.03 from nvidia, what should be safe to download?

The bottleneck for your Geforce 9650M GT is DDR2.
That's why it have lower performance. Basically, 1000-1500points(3Dmark06) lower than Geforce 9650M GT DDR3.
You should try OC it but be careful.

Your 9500m GS also has DDR2, yet you managed to OC it to 4800 pts ( well the other guy managed to push his to little over 5200, but that is insane lol )
