    Asus' New Multimedia notebooks

    Thursday, 17 January 2008 11:17 AM

Asus has introduced a wide range of notebooks featuring the latest Discrete Graphics Engine (DGE) powered by ATI and NVIDIA. This includes the M50Sa and F8Sp that will feature the new ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650; and the VX2Sn, V1Sn, M51Sn, and F8Sn which feature the new NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS.

The new ASUS M50Sa and F8Sp with ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 will pave the way for Microsoft DirectX 10.1 – the next generation standard for high-performance gaming. Coupled with the new ATI based DGE with PCI Express 2.0 support, these new notebooks will equip gamers with hardware to enjoy games that demand the fastest throughput; while the integrated ATI Avivo technology that supports full-HD 1080P will provide superb audio-visual experiences. In addition, the new HD3650 will feature ATI PowerPlay to allow the notebook to achieve an optimal balance between power consumption and performance.

The new ASUS notebooks with NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS GPU are well equipped to deliver high performance with features like the NVIDIA PureVideo technology to power home-theatre quality videos. The new GPU boosts the graphics capability of the latest productivity applications – providing an ideal platform to maximize efficiency when working in the Windows Vista environment. With support for Microsoft DirectX 10 Shader Model 4.0 and true high dynamic-range (HDR lighting), users can enjoy the latest games at blazing fast speeds and astounding realistic effects.

Probably, but fat lot of good speculating will do for us right now.

Can I just say I think the marketing speak is hilarious on this stuff, though? Seriously, I'm pretty sure I've seen exactly those paragraphs describing the GMA X3100.

As determined by us at Notebookcheck.pl, GeForce 9500M GS is indeed a renamed GF 8600M GT with (the stock clocks are 475MHz for the core and 400 or 700MHz for memory). Here its 3DMark06 score on Asus X55Sv.

Yes, we're aware of it since almost a week.

The 9500M is a low to mid-end range graphics card, and was never made to compete with the 8800 in the first place. Just because it's 1 generation higher, it doesn't mean that it should automaticly beat every card produced from the previous generation.
