Hello, I've a GTX 960m and when running NVIDIA Inspector the prioritize temperature is set at default 74 C . Every time I change it , ether decreasing or increasing, it keeps resetting back to 74C. I was wondering why my temp stopped at 75C on every benchmark I run. Is the GTX 960m down-throtling itself? I want to increase my max temperature to 79C, but NVIDIA Inspector won't let me. Yet, NVIDIA Inspector let's me overclock the GPU core, memory, and voltage. I didn't touch the voltage since I don't know what to it yet, but I'm really just going to leave it alone.

Throttle temp is probably locked by the vBIOS

I have backed up my bios and extracted the vbios. I opened the extracted vbios and now I'm searching around to find out how to increase the "throttle temp" and also make it so that I'm able to change it in Nvidia Inspector, if need be. Would also like to increase the +135Mhz core limit. I am currently following this thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1522651/disable-boost-and-bake-in-max-game-stable-clocks-for-maxwell. I'm unable to ask them for any help, my account keeps telling me to "Verify your email" after I did it 3 times.
Wondering if the "throttle temp" are the target temp and max temp target, not seeing where it's limited or set to 74C for I can change it.
Would anyone help or guide me to unlock my vbios throttle temp/temperature limit?

By chance did you try EVGA Precision X to see if it is an Inspector bug? -
Edit: Yes, EVGA Precision X says the same. -

I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, both Intel and Nvidia (Optimus system, I need both drviers). Then I used DDU uninstaller to get rid of any leftovers. I can't use the 353.00 drivers without it giving me a BSOD video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. Had to repeat the reinstall process again and using ASUS 347.81 graphics driver. The 960m still stops at 75C and starts throttling. If what I see in my vbios is correct, then something that ASUS did is causing this. GPU-Z shows me that the Intel IGP is also stopping at 75C temp (just thought to check that), didn't know a IGP has it own temp, an error? Thought CPU and IGP share the same temps.
I contacted and made a case id with ASUS, I had a ASUS GL551JM before the GL551JW and that laptop don't have this problem (The GL551JW was on sale at a lower price what I paid for the GL551JM, so I returned it and switched).
Edit: Nvidia control panel 3d settings are set to GTX 960m as preferred graphics and power management set to prefer maximum performance.Last edited: May 24, 2015 -

"Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Lijay and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.
The temperature of the GPU always reset back to 74 celsius, this is abnormal. Seems like the sensor is fault.
Since you just bought it within a month, I suggest you to contact your retailer for a replacement service.

I don't believe that is true, beside me and another who PM me on Tomshardware forum, LaptopMedia.com made a review of the GL551JW model 2 days ago. Though theirs stayed at 72C and didn't throttle. Not looking to go over $1000, but I'm looking at the Lenovo Y50 again and the MSI GE62 APACHE pro 867. I've actually seen a Y50 in a store and play with it a bit, but MSI is new to me. Do the GE62 APACHE pro 867 have black aluminum both in and outside or is it plastic? -
Also, what do " CPU+GPU" mean? Are you talking about both CPU and GPU sharing one fan, right? The only two laptops in my budget are the Lenovo Y50 and the Acer Aspire V15 Nitro and the have two fans. I've gotten use to aluminum design style laptops, and easy prefer those. The Acer seems mostly plastic designed over the Y50. Do anyone know if the Lenovo Y50 still have the hinge breaking problem?

What laptop should I get, if not the Y50 and has the GTX 960m? I only have $1000, and kind a hard to find something unless it's on sale.

I didn't see a 10% discount for the Shark 4, I'll check again. The Shark 4 and NP7155 looks similar, is the Shark 4 a custom NP7155, or my eyes playing tricks on me? Also wondering if they're aluminum. -
The Shark 4 is the Clevo N150SD and the NP7155 is the N155SD. They're identical except a few minor cosmetic differences. -
Thank you everyone for your help! I really appreciate it.
If I should need anymore help, I'll ask in the Sager and Clevo forum, since this thread isn't needed no more. -
Just updating this thread to let others who has the Asus GL551JW know that Asus is fixing the with a BIOS update, increasing the max temperature to 82C. They sent me a beta BIOS, but I don't have the laptop no more.

hmm....i am running prema's modded vbios for the 980m and every time i boot the prioritize temp checkbox becomes unchecked
-
Use evga precision to set it,then set it at boot. For some reason evgas precision works where others fail.
