If you mouse-over the scores, it says something like: 'Based on 10 scores', so the number is taken from an average of multiple graphics cards with different memory.

Here and here, click 'More details' under each benchmark for individual scores.

edit: all scores appear to be from 512MB models, dunno what's going on there..

    Does a 256mb 9600M GT even exist?

Notebookcheck is definitely a handy resource, but it's not always an apples-to-apples comparison. For instance, the 3DMark06 score for the 9600M GT is based on 18 results, while the same on the Quadro FX 770M is based on just 2.

One of the two systems included in the Quadro's average is actually a Precision M4400. The Quadro FX 770M used in the M4400 is DDR3.

The detail of the 9600M GT shows a mix of DDR2 and DDR3. The DDR2 models are down in the 4400-4500 range and the DDR3 ones were 5200+ in 3DMark06.

Notebookcheck also gets the score for the 8400GT completely wrong.
