    NVIDIA® Quadro FX 2500M, 512MB (dedicated), OpenGL

How does this card compare to the 256mb ati X1600? I'm thinking of getting the Dell M90 with this chip because it has higher amount of RAM and the chip looks good but...

As i noticed in the other thread you guys mentioned the Quadro is not for gaming and is a renderer/video/photoshop primaryly. Although it has high amount of dedicated ram it might not be good for playing games like Oblivion or Half Life 2?

The dell m90 from small business with -$450 off seems like a decent deal for the build quality and all of the m90, but as a gaming machine how does it compare to the xps M1710? My impression was that the M90 is a similar build without the flashy looks and highest end nvidia chip.

    Thanks,
    Chris

The FX2500M is the equivalent of the 7900 GTX so it's by far better than the X1600. The performance of the Quadro should be near its GeForce counterpart. I've heard about 10% less performance on games and 50% more on CAD applications but you should search for some reviews online to see game benchmarks.

Dont buy that M90 to game. You can spend your money on something else with a geforce video card.

The quadro is an optimized geforce 7800 meant for CAD/opengl apps. It will have lower performance in games tho.

well, i guess bumping this old thread is slightly better than making a new one, since it shows you made an attempt to use the search

yes the quadro will be able to play games

the 2500m will get 1-2fps lower than the 7900gtx (but in return you'll get higher image quality) the 1500m will get 1-2 fps lower than the 7900gs (but in return you'll get higher image quality)

Quadro 2500M is equivalent to its Geforce 7900 GTX brother.

The main difference is that the Quadro is optimized for OpenGL and DirectX applications such as CAD (computer-aided design) and DCC (digital content creation). Thats why video software from Adobe, Avid, Adobe, BorisFX, Magic Bullet are all great for such a card. And animation and compositing software engineers have also optimized their code for OpenGL.

Well, the M90 has pretty good gaming performance, though the 2500M's drivers aren't optimized for gaming, but rather for software such as CAD. The M90 won't run nearly as good as the 7900GTX in Oblivion, but performance will still be awesome.

I have the same notebook with the card you are asking about, and trust me it can play anything you throw at it at high settings. It has the same core as a 7900gtx as stated before and performance is the same. As for oblivion I run it at 1440*900 res, highest settings, and with the increased texture mods to make things look even better. I have played the following games on this card at the highest setting without a problem:
    FEAR
    Oblivion
    Prey
    Need for Speed Carbon
    Gothic 3
    Half Life 2
    Medieval 2 Total War
    marvel ultimate alliance
There is only one game that I have heard of that does not work with the M2500, Ford Motor racing 3 I dont know why it does not work but it just wont. And btw you should check dell outlet because you can get better deals there on your computer than $450 off. Look what I got in my sig for ~$1750.

why are people, who don't even own the card, saying that the 2500m doesn't game as well as the 7900gtx, when people who actually own the card say the opposite...?

They are the same.I saw a benchmark sometime ago, the margin was 2% (like that matters).
So, don't worry.Just keep in mind.Quadro FX 2500M might be more expensive.

I bought an FX 2500M on ebay this past week really cheap and tested it out on 3dmark06, then flashed it to a 7900gtx and ran 3dmark06 again, not much of a difference at all in scores (maybe 100 points at most). I saw some website that lists all these different mobile graphics cards scores, and the 7900gs actually scored lower than the fx1500m in each 3dmark03, 05, and 06.
