So the American Library Association has earmarked a day where hundreds of libraries across the U.S. are going to try and foster gaming. There's apparently going to be competitions across the nation where libraries are going to compete against other libraries. This year it is Nov. 14th.

I'm not sure what you guys think, but I think it's a fun idea. I just checked to see if the library by my house is hosting it, and they definitely are (they have about 2 dozen quality multimedia/gaming computers), so I plan on hitting it up.

Kinda odd. Wouldn't go to my local library for a LAN. I know attendance has been dropping in the last decade but, gaming day? Really?

yes lets turn libraries into pc game cafe's.
learn history from modern warfare 2!
learn reflex skills from fps games!
but i've played every single medal of honor and call of duty series, and i dont understand whats going on at all!
just shoot what i can kill

Can you picture some little kid asking to get a new video game system so he can learn more about WWII? =D

and Lazzer, the library near my house has adult gaming for people 18 and over once a month (and teen gaming once a week) using the nice computers in the basement. We do play LAN, but it's also hooked up to the internet so we can play online too.

Ok that makes a little more sense. When I think library I picture a dozen machines running Windows NT with huge 15" CRT monitors and behind each of those screens is a 7th grader on Runescape. Thats the Ocean County branch.

Makes little sense for libraries to promote one day on the calendar towards one of the activities that directly threaten their core existence.

Well thats unfortunate for them and makes our library desktops look flippin sweet. They are all fairly new Dell desktops with a quality Intel dual core processor (around 2.4-2.66, I can't remember), an 8800 GT, and 4 gigs of DDR2. We play COD4, CS:Source, TF2, L4D, and BF2 all at the highest qualities at native resolutions on 20-inch Dell LCDs. They're pretty sweet for a library
