On that thread about the UT3 I came up with the idea of creating an NBR CLAN ! ! !

Anybody up to making a TF2, DoD:S, CSS, CS, UT3 etc... ANY SERVER?!

PS: I think more than Forums and PM, MSN, Email should be employed ;)
    Online Servers would be amazing!

    NBR CLAN!!! WOOH!

I was already thinking of starting a few servers for NBR in the summer since the TF2 server I ran last year went so well. I was thinking more around May since it's when more people are available to play what with school, work etc.

I have an unmetered fiber optic connection and several powerful PC's, plus a ton of hosting knowleage since I've been doing it since 2004.

But if we want this done, I need to know what game to run it for, and I don't think it should be any more than 2 games at this point because we would have to focus on just one or two to get them going well. I can get them running within 30 minutes if it's a game that I own.

It should be something that allows for alot of players, L4D doesn't really work because of the matchmaking system, there's no real need to run a server for it, but something like CoD4, TF2, CS:S, Crysis wars, UT3 etc would work great. We can still play L4D, but there's no need to make a server for it.

We have a NBR Steam group & sever (unknown555525), and we tried UT3 before but just not enough people would play.

    http://steamcommunity.com/groups/notebookreview

I have not played in a long while though, Forerunner is the more active of us.

TF2 worked well like unknown said, I think this is because its a wide spread game and steam really helps organize things, you can join a game from there, or see if somebody is playing and post game dates.

When I see games planned I try to make it, its good fun to play with the forum mates but my life is way too busy to always make it. I play 1 player stuff in my free time usually (just got done with a good round of shikigami no shiro 3) I will try very hard to get some Starcraft 2 stuff going when its out for sure :p

The server IP posted on the steam community is old, I took down the server back in october because every one had to go back to school, and the server started dying down since no one was avaiable to play. I'll start it back up, and this time with better server hardware when we get enough people to say that they're willing to get this going again.

I definately think that the majority of people here on NBR like TF2, and it is a very fun game, but as I just said, we need some committed people to get it going. At the very LEAST we need 8 players, if we can get that, we can get a good server going. Also, to keep it so NBR players have priority, I'll give anyone from NBR a reserved slot if requested once this kicks off, so even if the sever is full, anyone from NBR will still be able to join in. Or, if I'm able to, anyone with NBR actually in their name automatically gets priority.

Yeah you can have more than one group, but being in the NBR group is by far the easeist way to find and play with forum mates. Threads where people post there handles just do not work.

Aye, I noticed too but I do not have to be present on steam for the group to exsist, its still a great outlet for you guys to be able to share ID's and find games to play in with one another.

If anybody thinks they would like the responsibility of an officers seat to organize game times and things they can PM me with there application.

I may not get game time in but I practically live on the forums so just PM me here when you need something. I get on mostly at work and I can do forum reading but not play games.

Ok, well TF2 is done, configured, and running. If you want to start trying to schedule some events, or give me the ability to, we can try to get this going?

Here's the gametracker page for it, http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/65.78.148.62:1337/ If anything else should be done, just say something.

I will need to get TF2 this weekend!

    What servers are you running?

You "could" run virtualization software to create multiple servers on the same computer/server

How do you have unmetered fiber optic!? *cries*

Right now just running SRCDS configured for TF2 with the beetlesmod plugin for admin control / map voting etc.

I can run a different server on a different core since server apps only take one core, and even with a full TF2 server on stock tickrates the CPU usage is only >15% on one core. None of the server apps require their own OS, so I can run up to 30,000 on this one PC because that's how many port numbers there are available.

Unmetered only means that there's no usage cap per month like some network providers have, I believe Verizon FiOS has a monthly cap but I'm not sure, and I know over here Comcast has a 250GB per month cap. I personally use about 60GB per day in bandwidth on average but some days as much as 150GB so that would really suck for me.
Looking at bandwidth in terms of servers, a single 32 player TF2 server takes on average 15KB/s per client in upload bandwidth, and 8kb/s in download bandwidth, but lets just look at the upload, 15x32=480kb/s Now there's 86400 seconds in a day so 480x86400=41472MB's per day times that by 30 days and we now have 1244GB per month. So assuming the server is full 24/7, it would take over a terrabyte of bandwidth per month to run, and now you can see why there's really no other choice than an unmetered connection.

    These are my speedtest.net results
(btw, for those that don't know, a bit is 1/8th of a byte)

I created an event for this saturday at 6PM PST. Hopefully I'll see some of you there!

    What PC/Server do you have!?!?!
WOW I was thinking you had upwards of 25-50Mbps :D
But still... thats pretty dang fast...
Why is your upload so fast? Im guessing server grade

I will try to get TF2 and UT3 this weekend!

    Anybody play yet?

I think we should still just tell people to add NBR -(NBR)- {NBR} -|NBR|- etc... just for kicks hahaha

And thanks for setting this up unknown :)

I'd love to play as part of the NBR community, not necessarily a clan though. I'm not really into the whole aspect of any game. I have CSS, TF2, HL2 :DM, and L4D. I think I'm part of the NBR group on Steam though.

While voice chat is fine being more mature, text chat should be the same as here on NBr. Same thing with usernames. Noticed a ton of those today.

Basically the rules should be No excessive and/or directed foul language, racism, or hateful talk directed at anyone, or anything that would be found as directly offensive to the other players. The server there is for people to have fun, and play by the rules, and people who excessively complain about other players who are playing by the rules should be muted or kicked. Anyone caught mic spamming, playing random sounds, screaming, or playing music should be banned for any duration the banner chooses. The microphone chat is for chatting, or strategizing, not for acting like an idiot or complaining.

Basically if your an admin, and you see someone who you think is breaking a rule, take action, this should be a server safe for all players of all ages and skill.

Anyone here who thinks they should have admin and will be on the server alot, PM me with your STEAM ID and username, and I'll add you to the list of admins, but if you screw up, abuse it, or use it for your own gain such as cheating, you will be revoked.

I was talking with unknown. I think it a good idea to have an open enrollment for ADMIN status in our server.

Right now if you are a NBR Mod, Admin, or something like that you need to PM me or unknown your steam ID (example: STEAM_0:1:6837507) and you will be granted Admin rights on the server.

I know I can trust the mods & admins from the forums to continue the good work in our game server. If I find that between those people we do not have enough coverage then I will start asking for volunteers.

I want to again give a big thanks to unknown for hosting our server and the work he puts into it. If you play on the server you should send him some +rep to say thanks.

If I cant sell it for a sane price then no. You know I like to be the pioneer into new tech and the W90 is just begging for me to crack it open and do a super in depth review.

I finally got a Zalman MC-1 a proper microphone to go with my headphones... but I have not played in so long I am suffering an issue with my mic in my x-fi. The mic is always on and I do not have the proper console software to control it.... grrr

Edit: got it had to mute the mic in windows playback properties but not mute it in the recording side. Works pretty well. Gonna try to get some gaming in tonight. Total noob since I have not played in so long, but atleast now I can wear my headphones in comfort before I had to wear a ear piece under them to use a mic.

That's why you just do what I do, use a headset around your neck, and not your ears or head, and use a surround sound system for the audio. No discomfort, and waaaay better sound with ground shaking bass :D

Thing is only time I can play is late when everybody is asleep pretty much so I have to use the headphones.

I used to play WoW with 2 sound cards, one for Vent/Teamspeak and it was on my headset and the other connected to my sound system.

Im sporting full Klipch Quintete III's with the 12" Klipsch sub powered by a 540w receiver I can shake the whole house easy. I used to have 2x12" car subs on a separate amp but I had to get rid of them for space.

I can still do the split run because I have my output split on a y adapter from the PC, ones goes to my amp/reciever and one is direct to my headphones. I generally turn off the receiver when using the headphones and turn on the all so awesome 3d-CMSS Headphones mode on the X-Fi but I could just leave it on and use both, toss the 10 band eq into lowpass only and just have the sub toss out some lows.

If you never got to hear 3d CMSS with a good pair of headphones you wouldn't understand why I like it, I am a massive bass addict, im rumbling the house now actually but the sound stage and virtual surround are just amazing, its good enough to trade the bass for. Plus for competitive play you get a better idea of where people are.

doesn't the first number represent the sattellites or the tweeters, and the second number the bass? if that's true than I already have 7.2 since I have a logitech system for front and back 5.1, and a coby system wired up for the two sides, plus a closed boxed kicker C12-8 sub for the second subwoofer hooked up to it's own amp and split with the output of the logitech's system's subwoofer channel. It works quite well :p

    Yes, everything but the subs

Yeah, its not TRUE 7.2 because you have 2 pairs of speakers playing the same exact sound, and you have two subs playing the same exact sound too :D

But yeah, its 7.2 haha :)

Now imagine that hooked onto your head... :D

Are you in the NBR Steam group? There is an event scheduled for today at 6PM PST to play TF2 on unknown's server.
