I highly doubt that any game is going to be DirectX 10 only; hardly anyone has this technology as of yet and game developers wouldn't make any money. I think it is safe to say there will be a DirectX 9 version.

I notice some of the new games REQUIRE Vista but I don't assume that means they require DX10 as well.

Agreed. No developer in their right mind will require DX10 for at least 2 or 3 years, and probably even longer than that, unless their goal is to create one of the most demanding games available (and even then, most of the big names like iD, Valve, Epic, etc. have very good scalability).

Your macbook (non pro) has an Intel 945 GMA card, hardly acceptable for gaming.

I wouldnt be surprised to see MS make a DX10 only game.. They have been extremely money hungry and greedy latley.

Even making games Vista only is a piss poor thing to do IMO.

Lets not even get into the numerous law suits the have going...

I'd say it'd be only casual games that would be DX10 only for now. If they're extremely money hungry, they'd make it DX9 and DX10 for best profits. :)

It's certainly going to work on DX9 machines. It's just that some features that make the game look better aren't available for machines that use DX9. Then again, if you really want some eye candy, your options are narrowed down to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game. They always optimize it for these two consoles.

Not really... That's why I said Need for Speed Prostreet is optimized for consoles. Ugh. Posting like that makes you look like an idiot. Unless you really are one.

I doubt I can recall any game that ever came out that was restricted to a particular direct X version. sure you had to have the latest version but that didnt stop people from using older equipment to run it. Besides NFS is not made by microsoft so you know they wont restrict it to DX10. Microsoft restricted halo2 to Vista and ultimately DX10 because they wanted to promote their OS, EA games has no reason to do the same, they are in it for sales not promoting an OS they have no interest in.

I've played NFS Carbon on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and NFS Most Wanted on the PC and Xbox 360. All the setups were hooked up to a Samsung LA40S81B 40" LCD TV. Xbox 360 through component cables, PS3 through HDMI and PC through DVI-to-HDMI converter. They all ran at 720p. We also tried the PC version on a 22" LG LCD monitor running at WSXGA+. The PC still got smoked. My friend's PC ain't a slouch either. C2D E6600 @ 3 Ghz + ATI X1950XTX + 2 Gb (1 Gb x 2) 667 Corsair Dominator DDR2. We ran the PC version everything maxed out. The PS3, PC and TV belonged to my friend BTW. The PC version isn't crap, but compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, it's clearly not as good.

Now I ask you the same question. Have you tried it on all three platforms? Because my friend and I love to try and compare the same games on different platforms, given that we have the games though. It's either that or we just borrow from some of our other classmates.

Also regarding Pro Street. It's said that NFS Pro Street will feature advanced physics. I'm just wondering if the PC version requires a physics card like the AGEIA on top of having a high-end graphics card to enable damage settings at the maximum.

I only tried the Xbox 360 version m8..and it wasnt hooked up to an HD TV Tbh..and the pc was hooked up to a 22Inch LG HD Ready..The graphics card was an 8800Gtx..

Im sorry mate I just prefer the PC Version..but this will help for sure im a PC Gamer..So im kinda biased.. :)!

Bout the Physics Card..Think the 8800 Has An Inbuilt one Tbh..

    Sry Sir :)!

Alot of games like need for speed are console games and just ported over to the PC, that usually means bad coding and not taking advantage of the pc's power.

Find a true PC title and then PC shows how much better it can be than consoles.

I think one of the better things with PC vs Console is how on pc you can readily find mods/hacks ect for games to expand there replay.

Im done with consoles. I have too many of them collecting dust and it gets old having to buy a new one like every year making all your old memory cards, controllers, games ect put to waist. PC for the most part you can keep your games and controllers and just do hardware upgrades every so often.

A friend of mine has CnC3 on the Xbox 360 and I have the PC version. Aside from the obvious control difference, the Xbox 360 version looks slightly worse than the PC version with max settings. Then again, CnC3 was ported from the PC and isn't really graphically optimized for the Xbox 360. This concept applies to NFS Most Wanted and Carbon as well, and probably even Pro Street since EA usually uses the Xbox 360 as their base/main platform now.

    @ KiD

Too bad you haven't seen the Xbox 360 version running on an HDTV. SDTV sucks when using an Xbox 360 or PS3. If you just saw it running on an HDTV, you'll surely choose it over the PC version that's obviously running at a higher resolution (when compared to SDTV which is only 640x480)

I also heard the 8800 has a physics processor built-in. But I think it's not a fully-featured one like the AGEIA.

Yeah PC took over me aswell.

Id play PC games, and once in awhile break open my 4gig DVD of Super Nintendo games :p

I like being able to take screenshots/movies of games and also just tab over to a stratagy guide or somthing. Things you cant do on consoles so easy.

Also back then PC was the only one to do online gaming right, my dreamcast with my 56k modem and hacked free isp worked but it just didnt feel right.

I doubt that it's DX10 only. No company that makes PC games will be stupid enough to take out backward compatibility with software technology just one-generation behind, especially if the gap isn't chronologically that big. It hasn't even been half a decade since DX9 was first implemented. Heck, even games like Call of Duty 2 have support for DX7. LOL.

Edit: Only noticed now that I posted in this thread before. ROFL.

I'm with you guys on the PC over Console.. I enjoy the customizations way too much and fiddling around with the settings.

But I just ordered an XBOX 360 online even though I'm against the system. I just love playing guitar hero, probably won't buy any other game. I wish the PC would come out something like that.

the only downside to the PC route is that it's very costly to do major upgrades
