Sorry for being away from the forum, but having this happen to my laptop, and not being able to afford to fix it has really put me in a rut.

But anyway, today I decided to do a little more research, and I was following this guide:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...systems/414150-diy-m9750-motherboard-fix.html

And to my amazement, it worked when I applied the pressure underneath to the GPU where the copper ends.

After I let go, it of course went blank again (the screen), so I followed the rest of the steps, and tried it again, but with no luck.

I am back to square one now, and have tried putting the same pressure on the same place as I did before, but it doesn't seem to be working now.

Can anyone help me out here? Is the GPU dead, or is it a connection problem?

I have little knowledge when it comes to Hardware related problems, and I don't have too many tools (like heat sink paste, etc etc).

what initially happened in the first place to make you think its the gpu.
did you get lots of lines on the screen after boot up or did you just turn on one day and the screen was blank.
normally when gpu's start dying they do it over time and not straight away.

if you did have the vertical lines on the screen have you looked into the baking method yet.

I put the computer to sleep one night (about 2 months ago), and I woke up the next morning and the computer was off.

I then tried to turn it on, and it boots up perfectly fine (the HD boots up, the fans work, I see the lights on and hear it booting up), but I get no screen.

I tried hooking it up to another monitor, but it was the same thing. Just a black screen with nothing on it.

I initially thought it was the GPU, but doing more research, I think it could be the motherboard.

I just don't know where to go from here. If I have to get it fixed, I will have to wait to do so, because I do not have the money.

But if I can somehow fix it myself, I want to try anything possible to get it to work again.

i was going to say it could be the ribbon connecting to the screen but if youve tried another monitor then its not that.

might be worth contacting alienware tech or posting in their own thread HERE as there might be others who have had the same problem.

Isn't that one of the GPUs that had the bad bumps from Nvidia? Might be worth baking it (I know the thread is around here somewhere). It's not like you can really make it any worse than it currently not working.
