Sorry if this is in the wrong forum im new with this. Right well my problem is that i have been a desktop gamer for a long long time now but have always wanted to get into notebooks. Now that i can afford to i need alot of advice choosing the right one. I would like to get one thats not too bulky and ulgy but if i need to sacrifce that too get the performance i need then i will. I need it to be able to handle both Star Wars Galexies and Final Fantasy XI but i would like it to be able to play Deus Ex 2 on max settings Comfortably (i dont need AA or AF on though). I would like to be able to play doom3 far cry and half life 2 but i dont care if they can only run on medium settings as long as its smooth. I dont know much about the mobile tech and am not to good with fps so can anyone give me some advice on what to choose. I have looked at the Acer Ferrari 3400 but im not sure if it can handle what i need it to. Also can the radeon mobility 128mb handle what i need it too seeing as how this seems to be the standard card in most notebooks. I would like to stay clear from the really expensive desktop repalcments if its possible.

Alienware www.alienware.com
Compaq X6000
HP ZD8000
can customize them wit X800 256MB GPU -
Mine does a good job, I can play Doom3, Farcry, HL2, and all the heavy hitters at a good framrate. Only 128 megs of dedicated memory for the vid card but it does the job and you can get one for as little as 1500-1600 online
Fujitsu: N6010: P4 3.2Ghz, 1 Gig Ram, 100 GB HD, ATI Radeon 9700 Mobile, TV Tuner, 8x DVD Burner, 17" WXGA+ (1440x900) -
ok thanks all i think i have a good idea now of what i need

Actually, the zd8000 and the x6000 only go up to the 256 Mobility Radeon x600, but other x800-supported notebooks include the Sager 9860, the high end Falcon Northwest (I don't know its name), and basically almost all notebooks that have a similar-looking case to the Alienware Area-51m 7700. I would suggest waiting for the Dell Inspiron 9300. There you will get a nice big 17 inch screen, a Geforce Go6800 card, and the benefits of Centrino (or probably Sonoma) mobility.

If you can wait a month you can get the new Dell Inspiron XPS Gen2 - release date 15/3/2005. This will be available worldwide.
From the specs I have seen the is the new gaming notebook to end all notebooks.
I will post the specs up later for everyone to drool over.
Cheers. -
The Toshiba M40 has a new nVidia GeForce GO 6600 with 128MB DDR and PCIe connectivity. The graphics on this laptop are fantastic for games, even with resolution and detail set to highest levels. And the laptop looks good, has a large screen (15.4", 1280x800 widescreen), and is quite slim and light for the power it has (weighs only 6 pounds).
Toshiba Satellite M40
Pentium-M 1.6 GHz | 512MB RAM | 128 MB nVidia Geforce GO 6600 -
Id go with the XPS Gen2 (im buing one)
But Ive heard thet the Sager 9680 will get that nVidia Geforce Go 6800 Ultra that will give some competition to the XPS Gen 2. -
The XPS Gen 2 is a lot better deal if you get it right now. The base configuration + a student discount (if you are a student) will be a bit below $2000. It's an unbeatable deal for the performance you get.
