I can run the game on Medium with 35 Fps what can I do to be able to run on high or ultra with a good framerate?

    Specs-

    AsusG53SX-DH71
    2.2 GHz Intel i-7 2670QM Quad Core
    12 GB DIMM
750 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    Nvidia GTX 560M 2GB GDDR5
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I've seen people on youtube running ultra with the same laptop, I just don't know what setting to tweak it the Nvidia control panel.

    Thanks for the help!!

What resolution? That GPU is not capable of high/ultra graphics at high res, you will need to tone down resolution to play in high smoothly.

create a file named user.cfg in the same folder as bf3.exe, put the following line in it, save, and then run the game:
    WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0

^^ i dont think anyone's really sure on what it does but it does seem to give a nice boost in fps at no image quality loss.

op, resolution has probably the largest effect on game performance. lowering the resolution slighty will result in a pretty big gain in fps. anti-aliasing is also pretty big in performance change. look up battlefield 3 tweakguides and you'll see how each video setting affects performance. Guides: Battlefield 3 Tweak Guide - GeForce

also, like darxide_sorcerer said, using user.cfg with certain commands have been shown to increase performance as well. do a google search for user.cfg and you'll find some helpful commands but the one that darxide provided above is the best one to use.

I'm not 100% certain what it does, but it adds a solid 5-8FPS at least, and have noticed no degradation of graphics quality.

It disable directx feature that handles deferred lighting.

It just an alternative representation of how multiple light sources hits an object in order to save temp memory and that memory can be used for something else. At a cost of performance.

having a little trouble with this. I can't find the file name Battlefield3.exe?

But im guessing its just the folder named Battlefield3? Well if it is I made a new folder called user.cfg. Now theres 3 folders inside Battlefield3 and they are settings, screenshots, and user.cfg

how to I copy and paste "WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0" into the user.cfg file? Do I make another folder in that folder with "WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0" as the name or do I create a text document folder in user.cfg?

You weren't supposed to create a new folder. Create a new text file (using Notepad) and name it "user.cfg". The ".cfg" has to be the extension of the file, instead of ".txt" used in text files. Edit the created file and put desired string in it. Save and You're ready to go.

ok I think i did it this time

    Program Files> Orgin Games> Battlefield3

then I created a new text document named user.cfg and pasted "WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0" into it.

Is that right? Also there was already a user.cfg but it was a type "cfg File" not text document like the one I just created.

^ also, there is no battlefield3.exe file; it's bf3.exe, and you should put user.cfg in the same folder as bf3.exe.
the "cfg File" is the correct one. i think what you have now is actually user.cfg.txt, so make sure to remove the ".txt" extension from your file, or just put that line in the original user.cfg file you had before.

    oh ok

I deleted the one I made and opened the user.cfg file (the one that was already there) with notepad and there was already a bunch of code in there like the one I was putting in, so i just pasted it at the bottom under all the other stuff and I think it worked im getting around 35-55 fps on medium

It has something to do with lighting in general and maybe shadows in
    particular.

I have a 5870 and in daylight maps it gives a 5-7 fps increase.

Funny thing I have seen though is in dark parts of Metro, like the tunnel,
if I scope my fps can CUT in half when set to 0. Set it back to 1 and
same situation doesn't really affect my fps at all.

So I only use this in the daylight.
