I'm a WWII military gamer from way back (back as in Medal of Honor:AA), and have been playing Call of Duty now for some time. My friends and I are looking for a "modern" military shooter to play also. Unfortunately, we all hate to have round mode forced on us (we like to die and respawn, not have to wait until the round ends to play again). This leaves out most of the quality modern tactical shooters (like the Rainbow Six franchise) and others. For some reason they think it's realistic to have you sit out for a large part of your play time (we disagree--we want to play, not watch).

Are there any good "modern" shooters (other than Battlefield 2) which allow the option to play round-based and team deathmatch WITH respawns? I tried B2, and frankly thought it sucked (another lead brick for your PC from EA Games, just like MoH :pacific Assault).

Any constructive suggestions will be appreciated.

Let's see...I don't think there are any good modern gaming other than BF2. There are a lot of good simulations games that you fly airplanes and stuff. Lock On is a really hardcore fighter plane game.

You could try Swat 4. It has short spawn times. Imo it is a much better multiplayer game than R6 because of the option for non-deadly weapons like the beanbag shotgun and mace. It also has unique matchtypes along with all the regular ones.
Just make sure to pick up the patch for it. It will save you from alot of headaches.

Buy a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004. It should be like $20 now. Then download the mod "Red Orchestra" and play that. Then you'll wonder why you ever tried playing an EA game. :p
