    I've got a bit of a quandary.

A good friend of mine just built himself a new computer with a 7900GT. The problem is...he doesn't really game on PC that much and doesn't like first-person shooters at all. The last PC game he seriously got into was Diablo II.

He plays a LOT of console RPGs (favorite is Final Fantasy VI), so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations for games he might like.

I will preemptively rule out Oblivion, because the control is fundamentally FPS and because I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like it. I also rule out World of Warcraft, as I've tried to gauge his interest in it and it just wasn't there.

I loved D2 and then I loved Guild Wars (although not as much as D2). You might want to suggest that to him, although Guild Wars doesn't need need a 7900GT to max everything.

How about Dawn of War, Winter Assault, or Dark Crusade? Those games are pretty fun.

How is Guild Wars anyhow? I'm used to playing WoW but my chiefest complaints are the profoundly uninteractive combat with most classes and the ridiculously dull equipment. I'm sorry, but right-clicking on a mob and then making a sandwich isn't my idea of a good time, and I have a hard time getting stoked about such exciting mods as "+3 to Agility."

So I guess I'm asking, is the gear flashy like it was in D2, and is the combat a bit more interactive than WoW?

WoW is much more fun than GuildWars, With the monthly fees of WoW you get what you pay for. I rather pay to play, then play dull boring guildwars for free!

True if you look at it in terms of PvE or PvM (player vs NPCs in other words). In PvP, Guild Wars excells over WoW in many ways. Guild Wars requires skill to play, instead of godly gear like in D2 or WoW (because there are no godly gear in Guild Wars).
Come to think of it, Guild Wars is a PvP game. If your friend hates PvP, then don't get Guild Wars.

Why did he buy the GT?

Also, Diablo 2 will run even if you don't have a GPU.

He's not a n00b, and I did ask him the same question. I'm pretty sure I've cursed and sworn at him about it, too. ;)

Honestly, he wanted to have something nice like that in his system. I do understand his logic, but unfortunately, not liking FPS makes it a lot harder to stress his system.

I'm currently playing through Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. It's interesting. Sort of a Warhammer themed Total War. He could try that out. (Or of course, the awesome Medieval: Total War 2.

...please take this reply to heart...if he went out and got a laptop that cost that much you need to get him a game that will take advantage of all the graphics it has to offer...Battlefield 2...or battlefield 2142...great online fps...and they require a kick a$$ computer to play

At first WoW stats are boring(it's the same as D2 really hah), but it makes sense and all later, +dmg to healing/damage, +stamina for life, and then theres enchants, etc. Nothing confusing really.

I never really enjoyed GW, but WoW is definitely fun for me, probably due to the community, aka my awesome guild and guildmates :)

Except that I said he built a desktop with a 7900GT, and he doesn't like FPS. I can't just make him like them; if I could, we'd have one more man for our Doom 3 and Far Cry deathmatches. That's the whole point of this thread, is to find games that would appeal to him.

Since he has the GT, might as well use it in Company of Heroes. (WWII RTS)
