    Hey forum-members!

I have an urgent question: My brother (who trades in notebooks) gives me the opportunity to change my RAM (DDR2 2*512 MB 400 MHz) to DDR2 1*1024 MB 533 MHz.

My question is: Is it smart to sacrifice my Dual Channel configuration for faster RAM? I will not do any upgrades in the feature, so that is no argument to me.

Please guys I need your advice.

    Charlie-Peru :)

BTW: I am especially asking this in the games-thread because I use my notebook for games (80% of the time)

I'd do it - having a single 1GB module will leave you room to add more memory in the future. Dual-channel does not bring big benefits.

I would do that as well. Dual Channel does not offer a big enough boost to merit 2 512MB sticks. Go for the 1GB stick and you might increase to 2GB in the future. :)

I completly agree. Go for the new RAM. Dual Channel doesnt bring too much of a benefit to the table, and you can upgrade easier now.

Sorry to bring back this old thread but I didnt want to make another, this way the forum stays clean.

Anyway: New updates on my RAM. I have 1*1024 533 Mhz and 1*512 400 Mhz in my notebook. My question is: These RAM are both of different brands, and the speeds are different. But CPUZ says that these are running Dual Channel. I dont get it!? Can someone explain this?

    See the attachment please.

There's a feature on the i915 chipset that allows RAM modules to run in dual-channel even if they are not the same size.

    Thanks Chaz!

I am very happy to hear that! I must say I can 'feel' the 1.5 GB of DDR2. Booting is faster, multi-tasking is better. I will do a 3dmark05 bench too, stay tuned.

Hahaha that is a good one Twilight!

Ah I just love to tweak XP styles, I liked this one so... Very interesting that this 915 motherboard can let two different (brands and speeds) memory run at Dual Channel.
