Hi, I've got an Acer 5672WLMi with ATIx1600.

I've already read most of the thread about overclocking it, and honestly, it's becoming more confusing.

    Question:
    1. Which driver set should I use? omegadrivers or the ati catalyst? there's a thread saying omegadrivers don't work well with x1x00?

    2. Read in another thread about my laptop GPU model cannot be OCed with ATI tools or ATT? can i just get a confirmation?

    3. Best of all, can someone just give me another brief guide about over-clocking? I saw the thread with the guide about uninstalling the drivers, install omegadrivers and ATI tools etc etc. but after reading all other threads, it seems owners of acer 5672WLMi can't do it this way :(

I'm really a new laptop user, been using desktop all the time, so please correct me if I said something wrong.

    1. Wrong. Omega's IMO are better but at the moment I would recommend newest Catalysts from ATI which is 6.8

    2. ATI Tool good, Ati Tray Tool bad.

    3. Uninstall current drivers ->reboot -> Driver Cleaner (cleaning what left after uninstall) ->reboot-> install C 6.8 ->reboot->install ATI TOOL->OC->check stability->tatoo this on your left or right arm ;)

    4. If this won't work, I'm sorry but I can't help. Besides I hate Acer's ;)

Thanks mastha212, I'm currently using the 6.8 catalyst, I guess I'll go on ahead and try ATI Tool and see how far i can go on OCing it.

BTW, should I also install the Catalyst Control Center?

Ok, I can confirm with the other thread about someone not being able to use ATI tool for my laptop model (forgot which thread, been reading too many).

Ati tool will say that the model is not supported, and if try to change the setting, it'll give a black screen. (I don't know whether it's suppose to be like this since it's the first time I use it) I left it like that for about 20mins though, then force shutdown

ATI TOOL suppose to work with your model.
Just increase 5mhz each then check for stability, then increase again, so on.
Blank screen means you increase it to much.

Sorry samuderaindia, I didn't specify earlier, When I started up ATI Tool, it report my core/mem as 0/0, I put it to the stock value which is 438/369(got from NHC) then shut down NHC, and run that, which then give me the black screen. after I reboot, I click some of the buttons and it said my card is not supported.

and, I tried with 2 different ways, one is uninstall all ati-drivers, then do a driver-cleanup, reboot, install omega latest driver, and run ATI tool.

The other one is the same, just that I use 6.8 catalyst instead.

Well, after finding that ati tools doesnt work for me, i went and download powerstrip instead. powerstrip works though, now stable at 510/415, mem going above 415 will give me a 'fuzzy' screen. I'm wondering whether I can still go higher on the core clock though, seemed pretty stable and cpu temp staying around 64-67 celcius while i was testing with Oblivion.

.... Ok.. I just noticed that version 0.24, the one i downloaded was released on 24th May 2005. So this might be why it didn't recognize my card. (I seldom use beta) Guess i'll try out the 0.25 beta later
