In a word no. Just go with the 12.1 Beta. They are way better than 11.12.

Is it completely compatiable with M17X 5870 CFX?
I skipped trying new AMD drivers after constantly getting BSOD.

12.1 should be working for CFX systems however some are still reluctant to leave on 11.10 in terms of stability.

Rocking AMD Catalyst 12.1 Preview myself on my HD 6970m.
Its been performing nice and i have yet to see any issues.

But im on a Clevo P170HMx so i can use the drivers without modification.

Btw i dont think they ship a 6870m in Alienware m17x r3, only HD 6970m and HD 6990m.

many successful reports of 12.1 in the alienware forums...on both single and xfire configurations. And even success with xfire 4870 and 5870

I would skip the 11.12 all together as AMD themselves recommend this one:

    AMD Catalyst? 12.1 Preview driver

Are you too using 11.12? What is your response for 11.12? Is it worth an update?

    BTW my M17x uses 6870.

They actually ship a 6870m in Alienware m17x r3. I got one from Fry's Electronics October 2011. I use the stock Dell drivers though after seeing all the issues with the later driver versions.

    I have a 4570 board on my Dell 1555 with 1366x768 resolution.
I use CCC 11.12 with a Happauge 850 video component and D/A converter.
For my use the cable video is excellent, smooth with great anti-aliasing characteristics. All adjustments to CCC 11.12 are custom not application centered. I am not a gamer but enjoy excellent color response and as much resolution as I can. I can see the grass blades in a sports event.
Be advised attempting to change the drivers in CCC from 861.0.0 to 891.0.0
may result in loss of resolution and registration errors in win7 64.
Attempt to move up to the 12 series is also problematic. All is a result of the
Dell 1555 characteristics and is not necessarily a response in other computers.
If you wish to know my CCC settings let me know,
    Marve
