Just a question for those who've played NFS Undercover for the PC...
Is the storyline with all the in-game scenes (videos, etc.) and stuff exactly the same as the story for Next-Gen consoles (360 and PS3)? Or did they simplify them down?
I'm choosing to either get it on the PC or the PSP, but I heard the PSP version's storyline is "watered-down" to text messages which would be boring as hell. Plus, on the PSP there's no free-roam, whereas the PC version does, and both are in about the same price range...
Also, just wanted to know if it would work smoothly on my notebook (Dell XPS M1530)...specs are NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, 3GB RAM, T9300 2.5GHz Core Duo...
I've played many FPS and RPG games, but this is the first racing game I might try out...
Thanks...

PSP is definitely worse. There's no way they're cramming all that onto a UMD. On either platform, it didn't seem to do so well with reviews. Grid (simulator) or Dirt (off-road) might be good pick, or NFS Most Wanted.

I'd say the PC version would be better.
-
PSP versions of games always have less content, simply because there's less room on the media (UMD) to store content.
-
yes it will run smothly .. i have 8600m gs and 2GB Ram and t8100 core2duo 2.1 and its fine

if undercover is the only racing game you try, then you are going to be disapointed in racing games in general. under cover is by far the worst racing game I have came across. honestly if you are into cop chases get NFS most wanted, nearly same good looking graphics, much better game play. or if you just want to race, grid is my pick

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah since MW the games have nose dived a bit

Alright...thanks guys. At least I know NFS Undercover will work on my notebook. And thanks for those tips on which racing games are great for the PC.
Based on reviews on your comments though, I might end up waiting for another good racing game though.
For the meantime though, I was just curious on how racing games work on a PC, in terms of controls.
Do you guys use a separate controller or just settle for keyboard and mouse? I think using the keyboard and mouse won't emulate a real racing-game experience compared to console versions...
For games like the Need for Speed series, would the Xbox 360 controller work over the keyboard/mouse combo? -
I've never used a mouse to play racing games, but the keyboard is fine.
-
hey guys the game is not that bad .. i find it verygood .. although mostwanted still the best NFS
-
ANY game especially Racing; I play better with keyboard. I suck at using the wheel or the controllers. Like I posted in other thread, I use to play so much of Hot pursuit that I was able to play the game blind folded. I knew exactly where to tap the arrows. lol
Keyboard's awesome. -

Undercover is a terrible game and a ****-***, miserable excuse as a Need For Speed title. -
I don't know about you guys, but I think this games kind of fun. Just to drive around and screw with the cops. Although the cop's are kind of dumb. Half the time they try to drive straight, but are driving into walls. The other half they drive the other way and say "dispatch, I lost him." I haven't played much of the game though.

let me sum up, here is whats wrong with undercover
-EA been lazy, they recycle the models for cars causing the game to look like a melting pot of old titles (graphics wise)
-nothing new and fresh
-again graphics not upto par, there is no unity in the arts and graphics
-poorly optimized (my desktop hd 3650 GDDR3 has to settle playing the game on medium @1024x768 and it would still lag spike, to put in comparison, NFS pro street which looks much better runs maxed on my machine @50fps
-the HDR is annoying
-the handling of cars is wonkey
-police has poor AI
-after the big flop of pro street, I'd expect EA to get their act together, not this peice of junk
rant complete -
Have you tried playing it with a keyboard/mouse combo? What's that like? -
Based on almost everyone's comments, looks like EA really went in the dumps this time with the NFS series. Are there really any redeeming qualities in this game (even for an NFS fan)? Haha...
-
Most Wanted was awesome. I beat it on PC and 360 it was so good.
I've skipped the rest since that title.
GRID is really sweet if you can not wait til Burnout next year. -
The game will run fine on your computer, but be prepared to lower a few settings. I have a similar config, which runs games like CoD4 great on 1440x900 with High settings, but for I had to turn it down to 1280x800 and turn all the "World" settings down to the lowest just to run this at a reasonable fps. I guess the graphics engine is just really inefficient (or maybe I drive so fast that the game has trouble keeping up ;-)
-
This game looks worse than NFS Most Wanted and runs worse too.
-
Yeah, NFS MW is the best so far. After that are just boring new series.

By the way, do you need the CD to play the game? And can it run multiple installs on different computers?

NFS Carbon was decent and the Pro street Demo just seemed awful. Unfortunately there is no demo for Undercover. GRID is a great racing game; I am nearly done with its 'campaign' mode. I have to say though, GRID will get boring. It is not a thrills game and has no story deviations. It is race, money, buy cars, teammate, race, repeat. At least with the NFS there was some kind of story or free play in the city. I want to test out Undercover...just that no demo thing holding me back. I don't like to shell out fifty bucks for a game I have never played or tested..especially on my finicky 8600M GT.

keep it legal

does anyone know if i can use my usb'ed psx controller on this game or a controller like xbox 360 controller on this game.
-
Most Wanted is the definite champ of the NFS series so far and I say this as someone who's played only the PC version (great graphics, fast-paced gameplay and a semi-decent storyline actually!)
The PC version does feature plenty of cutscenes which are balanced out with a good deal of texting. Gamespot's review should give ya a good idea how they all interact and affect gameplay (if you're burning to figure out the whole story and what each txt message will say, I know there's a FAQ or two out there with the requisite info). -
And to what someone said months ago about GRID's gameplay, well simply, GRID is a sim racing game regaurdless of what people try to say. SIM racing games do not have a storyline, the objective of them is usually just the thrill and enjoyment of racing, getting in that perfect line, coping with the different physical factors of the road, the car, and the other racers. There's always a progression system, but no story, no drama, just racing. -
I was a hardcore NFS fan, I think I have played almost all.
I liked most wanted the most, carbon wasn't bad, I played one race of prostreet and haven't gone back.
Undercover racing ISN'T bad.
It's the graphics that ruin it, with full or almost maxed settings at 1280 it is not playable at times, and looks bad, shadows, trees, etc.
Overall coding is bad and rushed.
When I compare this to grid, I max it at 1280 with 2AA and it looks and runs beautifully, much better coding
