Well, I'm getting a Dell Vostro (w/ 8600MGT) in a week or so, so I'll be needing some new games... Can anyone suggestion some games (with good graphics, of course) that doesn't involve violence or killing? Another note: I don't like racing or Sims games.
Thanks a bunch!

Uh.... that'd be hard... All FPS's are about violence so that rules out most of the good GFX games...
Rollercoaster Tycoon?
Videogame Tycoon?
Flight Simulator X has the best graphics of a non violent game (unless you start crashing planes into buildings)
2nd Life?
NBA 07? (oh wait, it plays back violent rap music so I don't know if it fits your criteria) -

those are simulations though.
do you consider sports game violent? i would recommend EA sports games; madden football, fifa, etc. -

Tried Flight Simulator, didn't like it at all.
Also, I tried the PS1 and PS2 Emulator, and played a few PS1 and PS2 games. PS1, they're ok, but the graphics is not as good as I would like it to be. But when I play a PS2 game on my computer, it heats up in minutes, so I can't do that anymore because I don't want the thing to get damaged. I tried using a fan with that thing, but the computer heats up as fast as a stove, and fans just don't work. (PS: I don't have a PS2 anymore, sold them a while back)

just hard to think of non violence and video games together.
violence has become a very pervasive theme in video games. -

Why no violent games? They are the best.

I especially enjoy Stealth-based games where violence is not the only way to finish a mission.
I liked GTA San Andreas too, I played it once, and played it again with the Minimal Kill challenge.
And I love Rollercoaster Tycoon... I just can't get enough, the game's really addicting. -
well, Postal 2 is an fps where you don't have to be violent... missions involve picking milk up from the local grocery store to dropping off a cheque at the bank...
Violence is pervasive in video games because if its something non-violent we can do it in real life. -
In Civ IV you grow your civilization, build cities, discover new technologies and deal diplomacy with other nations. Of course there's war in that, which is pretty much inevitable at some point. There's war in similar games like GalCiv and the Europa Universalis' as well, so you might not want those either.
This will be tough. The types of games with good graphics around are FPS, RTS, RPGs (all involving fighting/shooting/killing other characters), some sim games or racing games (both of which you've ruled out). Although this leaves strategy games and a whole plethora of other sorts of games, these games tend not to go for the sort of graphics you need an 8600M GT for, so might not really qualify as 'good graphics'. After all, puzzle games (as an example) don't need much in the way of graphics - you play them for the puzzles!
It's a bit of a one-way road. You get a good graphics card to play the violent/action-filled games, because you don't need high-end graphics for anything else. Anything non-violent doesn't really have a market for amazing graphics.
Can I ask, to make it easier for us to suggest something - what types of games are you thinking of? What do you want from your games, what games have you enjoyed in the past, and what do you consider an acceptable level of confrontation in a game before it becomes violent? Is getting a tank to blow up another tank or infantry unit in a RTS too much, or how about lightly-animated units killing each other in a Civ game? That's not too violent - civ games are played by many a young child with parental approval (and often encouragement). -

also, there is violence in the world. its the truth. you look around you and you can see it. its everywhere. violence has not only penetrated video games, but society itself. not just commercialism western society either. sure its in movies, video games, even books, but even world culture is a very violent affair overall. We get along fine with this country and that country, but this other country is going to get attacked. Its just how the world works. In a violent world I can accept a violent video game.
you should straight up check out half life 2. if you don't like it, don't ever get a violent video game again. but i think you should put your non-violence aside for half life 2. seriously. -

could you really beat splinter cell without killing anybody? even if you wanted to?
food for thought. you basically don't want a realistic kill the terrorist ak47 game.
you should check out half life 2. the violence is pure fantasy. you kill robots, monsters, zombies, aliens, and occasionally troops, but they are obviously clone mutant troops.
you definitely don't kill anything that looks human, as far as I can remember.
but you also have really interesting physics concepts and great graphics. -

Well, I've never played any of them, but you could try the City Building Series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_Building_Series
Caesar IV has pretty good graphics, and I think there is either very little or no combat involved. -
O.k., I have not personally played these games myself, but they may or may not be what you are looking for... (i.e. check them out, I am merely providing "leads")
How About Something like "Myst V"? As I have said, I have not played the series, but I hear it is upposed to be pretty good...
Myst V: End of Ages

ESRB rated E with no descriptors... I guess they could not find anything objectionable...
Secrets of the Ark: A Broken Sword Game

(Seems to be an adventure story with puzzles and the like)
http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp (For ESRB Rating... T for Alcohol and Tobacco Reference, Mild Blood, Mild Language, Mild Violence, Suggestive Themes)
And Just a few to throw out there...

Civ 4 is a good bet.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate this.

Whoa... you're asking for non-violent games but you're going to play HL2? Okay... murder all those bizzare creatures if you don't think that's violent... I personally don't find RTS games violent...
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
you don't understand. they aren't just creatures... they are EVIL.

There are a lot of adventure games like 07langp mentioned.
I really liked the Broken Sword games. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, cool adventure with some fighting but the story is what'll drive you. Psychonauts, so funny and not really violent. Runaway: A Road Adventure, oldschool but back then it was cool. Ankh, haven't played it but I hear it's super funny.
Or maybe Simon the Sorcerer 1+2 -
No violence? Well...the only game I know so far that you haven't mentioned is ToonTown xD. Ah...I remember playing that when I was a kid. Still - you might think "gags" are violent...
I barely remember anything from that game - but you could check it out. -
try international cricket captain 2007....its cool
-
Prey? Bloody as heck, but your just killing random aliens. Plus the whole walking on walls and gravity shifter thing eliminates all realism, but makes the gameplay all the more interesting.
-
This is what your looking for ..... HERE.
-
No, but it is a good game.
-
Theres fleet sims like
Star Trek Bridge Commander
Nexus the Jupiter Incident
There's only 4 genres in Vid games... FPS (Violence duh) RTS (you can't really call them violent but they do contain destruction) RPG (also based on killing monsters, and Simulations/Arcades: I.E. racing games, sport games, flight simulators etc. -
