Hello folks! I have a terrible problem. Extremly high temps. I get around 57ºC in idle, and I get 80ºC when playing Crysis. Same goes to the CPU. Pretty much same temps. I tried to use Speedfan to increase my fan speed, because its currently on 30%, and ALWAYS on 30%, even when playing Crysis, and nothing, because speedfan doesnt detect my fan

I need help on how to decrease temperatures. I own an ASUS N61Jq-JX040V

    Thanks in advance.

    hi
    two quick questions.
1/ is it a new laptop
2/ have you cleaned your fans out before.

all laptops vary but this is taken from the clevo temperature guide.
after playing a high demanding game like crysis they will get higher than normal.

80s arent that bad. i regularly get low 80s for both gpu and cpu during intense gaming and it hasnt really affected anything.

also about the fan speed at 30%, mine always says the same thing on gpuz. the fan monitors rarely work it seems.

if its only 3 weeks old and your worried about it contact your suppliers technical support for more advise.

edit: never tried rivatuner so best i let someone else reply to that one.

but do you think that 80.5ºC is a danger for the GPU? And i had around 81-82ª, or even more of the CPU temp.

those temps are really not high at all in my opinion... GPU's can handle 90C+ sometimes without any short or long term damage, they are built for high tempps but not temps 95-100C+

Also, the CPU danger zone of 75-85C is a bit low, IMHO.
    i7s run hot and 85C shouldn't be a problem. I'd worry @90-95C

Pshhaw, you should see the temps on the Asus G51 models!

Your temps are just fine, and unless you're getting consistent stuttering and throttling, you don't have any reason to worry. Just make sure you clean your fans regularly, of course, but that goes for normal maintenance of any laptop.

If you do get throttling, then check back. There are steps that can be taken to reduce temperatures, like reapplying thermal grease. But if low 80s is all you're reaching, there's not much reason to worry about that now.

    80C is perfectly acceptable.

Intel mobile CPU danger zone is 100C+. They're designed to withstand much higher temps than desktop chips.

Those temps are not bad bro. I have posted a pic of my Asus N61JQ-A1 after running some FPSers for a couple hours. I have a laptop cooler. I plan on adding some IC Diamond 7 Thermal paste...and see how much it will drop my temps.

I got, while playing L4D2, to 81ºC onGPU and around 85ºC on the CPU
    What means stuttering and throttling?
Well, actually, its kinda even better than before O.O
Oh and, do you think if i download MSI afterburner and put the fan speed to 100%, will actually help? But, when i went to my retailer, they said that 80ºC is a danger, because it deteriorizes the components. And what does the thermal grease do exactly? I would like to know, if you dont mind :D

    EDIT : I own a notebook cooler. a Notepal AX : http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6619&category_id=16

Bro read my above post. Those temps on the Asus N61 are normal. If you are worried the best thing you can do is apply after market thermal paste.

Do you think MSI afterburner will increase my fan speed? Or even if i put the 100% fan speed, will it change?

    Off topic question:

Recently i update my GPU drivers to the newest ones, and now it says 5700 series instead of ati blah blah blah 5730. Besides that, game-o-meter, can you run it and speedfan dont detect my GPU! in game o meter, says it doesnt recognize my system, in can you run it, says i have an ati display adapter, not the GPU i currently have, and speedfan wont even detect and show my GPU. Help please

I would not mess with fan speed or any programs like that. Sometimes when updating drivers monitoring software without an update will not show the proper stuff...this is normal. I would look into applying an after market thermal compound...if you are still worried about the temps.

for a new laptop he shouldnt have to reaply thermal compound and even more so as he doesnt know how to do it.
its not a straightforward job Phistachio.done wrong it could make things a lot worse and also void your warranty.

the one thing we havnt asked yet is what part of the world are you from and what are your ambient room temperatures. this can +/- upto 6c

Haha, actually, it may be around 25ºC, or more. Portugal FTW, but in summer its FTL ;)
I could always ask my retailer to do the job :D

Hehe, i already tried using MSI AB, i changed the fan speed, but still no change. But the fun part is that, besides of not increasing the speed of the fan by 70%, GPU-Z shows its in 100%, or 50%, depending on how i changed the fan speed in MSI AB, when it didnt change xD. GPU-Z always shows its on 30%, even when im playing games, and when i hear the fan go up.
