Hello all, I've been searching up and down the Notebookreview site plus all over the net, but I can't seem to find a solution for my problem.

I recently bought an ASUS A8Js, which comes with a Nvidia Go7700.

I hooked up my Samsung 19" monitor using a DVI cable.
I installed a program called "UltraMon" which my friend recommended, and off I went enabling the dual monitors.

Everything works fine except my 2nd monitor (the Samsung one), can only be set to a max resolution of 1280x1024!
My laptop resolution is set at 1440x900.

I was just wondering if this was an issue with my Nvidia go7700 card? does it not support a higher resolution for the external monitor? do I need to update my driver? or is there a way of changing my other monitor to a higher resolution?

and if anyone else has suggestions for a better program to run dual monitors, feel free!

    Thanks again!

Try using the default Windows multi-monitor in Display Properties.

I tried using the Windows settings as well, but it also only lets me set the 2nd monitor to 1280x1024

What resolution is the external LCD screen?

    Good chance it's a 1280x1024.

first, you don't need any additional software to make dual monitor setup, nvidia already has it.

second, learn more about "native resolution of LCD monitors"

UltraMon is a program that lets you have different wallpapers on each screen; I'm not sure what else it does.

As mentioned, the external monitor is already at its maximum resolution.

I don't use any program to run dual monitors:

I have an external NEC 1770GX (1280x1024) as primary, and my laptop's WSXGA+ (1680x1050) as secondary.

Hey I just want to say Im getting a widescreen monitor for my a8js and its also a samsung.

Your laptop screen is a widescreen resolution and your external monitor is a standard screen.

So if you are doing clone one of them will have to scroll. If you are doing seperate screens they can each be at their maximum resolution.

7700 can handle way over 2048 x 2048 or whatever has been invented as far as displays.
