Okay guys, I’m bit frustrated right now… it’s been months after buying this laptop but I still couldn’t get around the 8600M GT stuttering issue. I have read all of the stuttering related threads in this forum and tried most 16x.xx drivers from lv2g and right now using the dell newly released stable driver 156.83.

I couldn’t get to play unreal tournament 2003 (fairly an old game) on certain maps… whenever I start playing a large maps the stuttering comes in to play. Clearly this is GRAM related. I have few screen shots from GCPU-Z and nTune taken while playing the game.

All clocks are looking good, but the memory seems to be only utilized 23%. I don’t get it. Can someone explain this? How should I overcome this issue? I’m guessing this is related to the nvidia 8xxx series memory issue…

    * edit - okay 23% is the system RAM not GRAM. so it may be normal.... but still stuttering take place.

    Thanks in advance…

well i have seen and almost tired everything on that post.

this is a serious stuttering. i don't think unless something is really wrong that settings would do something this bad to any game.

i'm guessing this is the memory issue thats on 8xxx series.

Since you read them all then you must know that if those can't help then there's virtually no fix can be done by us except nvidia.

Do you have warranty left? If so, have it replaced.

Try 158.45, its an older driver but I find that it removes stutter almost entirely.

thanks negz, thats a driver that i have not tried so far...

looks like this is a know issue and nvidia is yet to release a fix for this... when that is i don't know.. this more like a memory management related problem and may not effect so much on certain games. i gather this info from various sources including the link i mentioned earlier in this website...

lots of people suffer from the same problem and some seems to not... i guess the reason behind is that the games they play. unfortunately for me UT2003 happen to one of those effected games.

    cheers !!!

The only thing that worked for my was updating to the latest and most potent drivers out there and doing the following:

Finding settings for each game that produce rock-solid framerates way above 40fps and then use a console command to limit the framerate to 30-40. Of course this only works in games with a frame limitter, so it most probably won't help with any RTS games. I know it's sad. I consider having my G1-S replaced as well. Anyone on here who did that an can report that he was more lucky with his new hardnware?
Because I really suspect this to be a BIOS-issue with mem management and I'm afraid having my NB replaced won't help the problem since any G1-S might suffer from this and it is just that not everyone has noticed it so far. :p
