Hey fella's
Like i posted under the ASUS link, i recently brought the ASUS A6Ja......and 2 days later i brought HL2:GOTY edition........well yes i got HL2, CSS, etc up and running on SINGLE player (ie offline).....but when i try to play over the net i get HUGE amount of spikes......my ping sky-rockets: 200-->500-->875-->1998-->0-->no ping-->2056-->etc
Can anybody here who plays CSS or any other STEAM game online tell me what in the world is wrong?
Ok, i've checked the following things:
-Firewall allows steam and it's games to play online
-I have 56k internet connection BUT my friend can play it on 56k just fine!
-I have a web browser accelerator (will install that when i get home today to see if that helps)
-Anybody in NEW ZEALAND, I am with Slingshot as my ISP---my connection plan is "Slingshot Ignite"
-I have ZERO viruses/trojans/spyware/adware/etc on my laptop
-My laptop specs are above requirements to run the games
-I CAN run these games offline
-CSS has FINISHED updating (lol i'm not that stupid)
-I'm not d/ling anything else in the background
-Turned off background applications
PLEASE someone help me with this, because this is extremely fustrating!lol because i'm getting tired of playing CSS with bots.........and i was hoping to buy DOD:S but with the ping jumping like this i don't i will.
And i can't get Broadband/T1/T2/T3 any of those because i'm staying in a "Hall of Residence" (boarding school) so the best connection i can get is 56K and my friend can play it fine on his laptop!
Thanks

My guess is that you still have something eating at your connection whether it be something in steam or another program. But other possiblities include having your various rates set too high.
Try playing with some of the settings using the console. The commands in the link are for CS, but they should still be valid for CS:S and the numbers should be close to where you want them as well.
