I am attempting to download Counterstrike using steam. Whenever I click the purchase button nothing happens. As if I hadnt even clicked it, no matter which game I try to download whether it is free or not it wont download. Im running vista.

Are you running steam with administrator settings?
    Right click,properties,run as admin.
If it doesn`t work, use also Compatibility mode with XP SP2.
Vista still gives me headaches...it`s why it`s only a separate partition at the moment :D

    Pirated WHAT?

    Steam? XP? Vista?

If something is pirated, it might be the cause of your problems.

    First, Uninstall Steam.

Go to www.steampowered.com and use the "GET STEAM NOW" Button at the top.

Install Steam, log into your account. (You logged into your account right?)

Open up the store tab and try purchasing the title again.

Compatibility mode is right by right clicking on steam, going into properties, then clicking the compatibility tab. Try checking the run as administrator button and maybe also the drop down that says run as XP SP2.

I just had this very same problem happen to me today when I went to buy Garry's Mod from Steam. All you have to do is browse the Steam store using internet explorer here: http://storefront.steampowered.com/v2/

When you get to the game you want to buy, click the purchase button, it'll popup asking if Steam is already installed, click yes, Steam will open, login, and it'll walk you through purchasing.

Hope this works for anyone else.

Ive tried that before too, once you click Yes, nothing happens. I get some file association pop-up. I realised steam was supposed to pop up.
