    Hi!

Today Im deciding my first notebook.

After reading for months this forum and a couple more, today is THE day

3 months ago i try to buy an acer 5672 but it all went wrong.

Now i have to decide between this two options:

    Acer Aspire 5102wlmi TurionX2 1.6 ghz, 512 ddr, ati x1100, pata 100gb

    LG LW 60 Pentium M740 Dothan 533fsb 2mb cache, 1.73Ghz, 512 ddr, ati x600 64mb dedicated and Hypermemory, pata 80gb

My actual desktop: Athlon xp 2600 core barton, 256 ddr, Nvidia FX5200, ata 40gb.

I really need and want to know if the benchmarks I have found of these two notebooks are better than my desktop to play some games (im not "THE" gamer, only play sometimes Pro evolution soccer 5 = wining eleven 9 or 10 dont remember)

    Acer: 3dmark03 about 1150 points
    LG: 3dmark03 3227 points, 3dmark05 1266 points (lw60, but 100gb sata, 2.0ghz, atix600 128 dedicated)

If you can tell me what games do you play or could be played with those numbers and if those notebooks are better than my desktop....

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Adrian

PS: ill be posting this, in acer and lg forum to see if anyone owns these models and tell me something else

x600 is a dedicated card, and a much better option for gaming than the X1100. The X1100 is an integrated solution, and not really aimed at people who want to play games.

I would imagine the X600 is probably a better card than your 5200 desktop solution as well. The 5200 is, to be quite blunt, poor.

ok.... thats the idea i have...

The LG is more expensive, in fact, i can get 1 giga of ram in the Acer for the same price of the LG

The question is, Turion X2 1.6 ghz is better than Centrino 1.73????

Is there any big difference between having a dual core processor and a single? when is the dual core used?

Thank you for your answer and excuse my english

You've got to ask what your main reason for getting a laptop is. If you want to play games, always go with the better graphics card. If you have little interest in gaming, and want something just to work on, get the better processor.

If you want to play games, get the X600. If gaming is not important to you, get the TurionX2.

There is nothing available to you with a newer graphics card is there? Say X1400 or 7400?

No, here we have very limited options.

For the price of the LG, the only options with good graphic card and Turion X2 is the ASUS A6T... but it will only be available in a montho or more

    The asus is turionx2 1.6ghz, 80 gigas, Go7600

Dont know when the two cores are used.

    Thanks again

The LG is definitely a better bet for gaming. The x600 is a decent card, not great, but still far better than the x1100. And a 1.73GHz Pentium M is still a pretty strong performer and should do everything you need. Dual core really comes in handy when you run a bunch of apps at once. For standard apps and single-threaded games, a strong single core processor can be better than a weak dual core processor.

EDIT: The Asus is a better deal for sure. Turion x2 is a strong processor, but more importantly, the go7600 is much stronger than either one of the previous GPU offerings.

7600 is a good graphics card for a laptop, certainly faster than the X600.

Dual core is good when multitasking in Windows, for gaming less so. Most games are single threaded, meaning they only utilize one core at a time. This will no doubt that change, but not for quite some time (though apparently Alan Wake you will need a dual core processor, or a hyperthreaded P4 to play it)

Alan Wake will use a minimum of 5 threads. So a quad core or more would be even better ;)

You should consider completing the FAQ in the What should I buy forum if you want a notebook recommendation.

The X1100 is better than a GeForce 5200, yes, but the X1100 is still an integrated card and not at all designed for gaming.
