So I had a Dell 9400 laptop with a 7900GS GPU slightly overclocked. Then my puppy bites directly through my power chord. As a quick fix I spliced the wires back together and electrical taped them up until I could solder them together later. Then my 3 year old nephew rips the tape off of the chord and fries my laptop. So I just bought the Asus G72GX-RBBX05 from Best Buy with the GTX 260M :D . Since 2006 I've only played two PC games - Civlization IV and Oblivion. I was heavy into Oblivion modding and it kept me entertained up until my Dell was fried. Now with the new graphics card I want something to push my new rig. So I need some suggestions.

Everyone says Crysis is still the standard for "beautiful" games that will push my card to limit. Are there any more? I just want some suggestions.

I was looking at Anno 1440 (Age of Discovery) and Dragon Ages: Origins. Does anyone have experience with these games? How are they?

    Thanks for the replies.

If you like Oblivion, you'll probably like Dragon Age, although it IS NOT wide open environment like Oblivion (more linear plot too) and it is 3rd person, party based, with a great story and characters. But it has a modding toolset that is pretty sweet, and a community to support it. I have only dabbled with the toolset though, as I'm not tired of playing the game yet. :)

It won't necessarily push your card, although I would be interested to see how it performs on your rig. I have a 8800GTS running at 1680 x 1050 and run most settings on medium>high for combo of best performance and smooth frame rate(for my taste). Some say graphics isn't one of the strong suits of the game, but I think it is absolutely gorgeous! Again, just my taste. Also, the game is more CPU intensive, than GPU intensive.

Good luck, enjoy your new rig.

    Civ IV and Oblivion, hmm...

Empire Total War (or Napolean TW coming Feb 26)
Great RTS games with turn based and real time combat.

If you like Oblivion you will likely enjoy Dragon Age but as said, it won't really push your machine. But it is fun and very well done.

You don't really have any shooters listed so I hesitate to recommend any. But if you want open world and great graphics than Far Cry 2 might be up your alley. Also Borderlands is a helluva good time, but it won't push your machine. It's like a FPS with Diablo looting and open world. Of course Crysis is the shizzle for graphics and the sort-of open world gameplay is quite good during the jungle missions.

Edit: Just thought of this one... Mount & Blade. Again the graphics aren't going to blow your mind but it might be up your alley.

What about the Witcher and Drakensang if you like RPGs.

Hard to recommend games if you dont tell us what genres you like of course.
All the HL2 games are good if you haven't played those etc (I'm guessing Strategy and RPG)

Also theres stuff like World in Conflict, Supreme Commander for an strategy twang :D
Also stuff like Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends.

Not quite sure what you're after :D

Dragon Age is good though, kept me playing for 50 hours in one play through, with only one area (Dwarven) that dragged.

I was the proud owner of a 9400 as well :p (overclocked also) that machine served me well. Sounds like you need to test the waters of some new genres! I'd suggest to you start with the first Mass Effect, maybe dive into the second. Maybe give borderlands a try, especially if you want to try playing with some friends or people online, GREAT game. You could try Fallout 3, its made by bethesda and runs on the same engine as Oblivion so it would feel familiar to you.

im also an rpg and strategy fan so like the others i will recoomed dragon age :eek:rigins and empire total war.
but one of the most enjoyable games for me has been batman: arkham asylum.
its almost as good as the recent movies storywise and gameplay never gets too repetitive and boring.
    well just my 2 bits

Thanks for the suggestions. Looking at Dragon Age: Origins, I think that's the first on my list. Empire Total War looks awesome too. The last shooter I was into was Halo for the original XBOX, so maybe Crysis would be cool. I don't think I've ever played a super hero game ever, but that Batman Arkham Asylum looks too good to ignore. I see that there are mods out there for Dragon Ages, which really makes that one appealing to me.

Actually, my GTX 260M has trouble with Dragon Age at 1920x1200, 0xAA, with all settings on Very High, especially in the Denerim marketplace <-- possible spoiler (not really, just the name of an area in the game). Goes down to 25 fps. It is a fantastic game however, as expected of Bioware.

I'm pretty sure the G72GX-RBBX05 version (the Best Buy model) only has 1600x900 resolution, though don't quote me on that.
