I have a Toshiba P100 with a GeForce Go 7600. About a week ago I got a BSOD when I was browsing on the couch. When I turned back on it wouldn't go away. Seemed like the error occurred with something in the video card driver. So I uninstalled the video card driver, rebooted in safe mode, did driver sweep, and then reinstalled the driver that I got from the Nvidia website. When I restarted my computer the screen was just blank. I did this twice, with no success.
Finally gave in and went to my school's service center and they tried installing the driver again but they couldn't even install it (I was there, it failed to do it). So I let them reformat my drive cause they thought maybe a file was corrupted or something. They said they failed to even install the driver again after the reformat. They told me my graphics card had to be replaced.....
So I don't know what to do. I didn't even think you could replace a graphics card. Is there anything I can do to salvage my laptop? Anything I haven't tried?
I don't want to get rid of my laptop cause it was running great even after 4 years. This thing just kind of creeped up on me.

bump, anyone have any experience with messed up graphics cards?
I was also wondering what if the graphics card just fell out of its spot, can I put it back in? -
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, you've got one of Nvidia's imfamous defective gpu's and the only way your probably going to get it fixed for free is if your still under warranty or else get ready to shell out some $$$ to purchase a new MB w/ new gpu !
I had an HP DV9000 running the 7600go, took a dump on me 2 months after warranty expired. HP wanted close to $500 bucks to replace the MB with, get this, the same GPU. I told them to kiss off. Why I own a real notebook now !
If your 7600go lasted you 4 years, consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky ! -
Yeah, my dv9000 in my sig burnt out too. I had to have to replaced but I got it for free after saying I found this thread on their support site about defective Pavillions. Since I bought a new laptop in the mean time, I disassembled it when I got it back and I was not too pleased with what they used for cooling the GPU.... Apparently a thin thermal pad covered with a piece of foil, yes foil, was good enough to conduct heat. After scraping that crap off, my GPU temps went from 75C idle down to 55C.

so do you see anything on the screen now?

Ok I will give Toshiba a call to see what they might charge me. If its a lot I am going to have to weigh my costs. The thing is this laptop still worked so well, its a shame for it to be put down.

Windows 7
Toshiba probably provides your video driver, need to go to their site to find any older releases -
I will try to find an older version on Toshiba website, see if it works. -
Try with some other drivers from lv2go.com.
Need some guidance for my grahics card problem.
