I received my new (refurb) Dell E6410 today running Win7x64 Professional. Installed Deus Ex, no problems, launched and started a game no problems. Graphics look great (considering the age of the game). But then I noticed something odd. The game will not accept inputs from the keys and touchpad simultaneously. Anyone have any ideas what might cause this? It makes the game unplayable.

Have you tried an external mouse? (just for testing)

Not yet...I'll have to borrow one from the office tomorrow since I don't have one myself.

Sounds like your touchpad has a locker that turns it off when you're typing - check the settings for it in the control panel...

    Afaik it's a known issue.
You can try to run the game in compatibility mode Windows 95/98.
Also a little advice, you can't really play DeusEx with the touch pad. Since it's an old school fps/rpg an external mouse it's the right thing.

Turns out my problem is not with Deus Ex...it's with the E6410's touchpad drivers. I was typing in MS Excel on my work E6410 this morning, and on a whim tried to move the cusor with the touchpad while typing. The cursor didn't move. I'll have to look into the settings for this thing.

yeah. This is something built into some touchpads. Hopefully you've got the option to turn it off. I know a lot of lenovo computers have this option somewhere (or I remember seeing it in their options somewhere).

    Hopefully yours does as well.

I don't. and it stays with me over reformatting and installing windows 7 again because apparently when it gets turned on it's some hardware setting that just stays with my touchpad. So...crap. Glad I have a mouse.

Thankfully I can turn it off...the E6410's software includes something called "touch check" to prevent inadvertant activation of the touchpad while typing. I turned it off on my work machine and now I can type and move the cursor with the touchpad.

awesome. think the reason why my computer didn't have that option was because I was on some beta drivers (that added click anywhere) and then it just got stuck turned on.

    oh well.
